Bros out there, my fuel consumption worsen greatly after i made a trip to Malaysia recently. Travelled along NSHW at an average speed of 120km/h, occasionally hit 150km/h, max speed at 170km/h. along the way pumped Shell petrol and once pumped Petronas.
After i return to Sg, my 1st quarter of tank only gives 50km, instead of the usual 90-100km. There is no change to how i pump my petrol.
Need advise here. Pls help.

many many many possible reasons...
my wild stab at your qn...
maybe the fuel tank indicator is starting to act up (faulty). I had mine changed when doing my 10k servicing as the indicator is acting weird (i.e not the usual as wat you have experience)
going for my 40k servicing at the end of the month... going to ask them to change it again.
IT is happening again.. seems like our ride's fuel indicator have this niggling issues

hi miniwhite
i thk is normal loh. when u accelerate more, the fuel consumption is increasing...
if u sometimes fast, sometimes avg in your driving speed, that is the Average FC oni.
therefore the avg FC shld be lower than your previous 'fuel savings' records leh.
unless, u always maintain your RPM at around 2000rpm, that will help u to increase your FC.
got traffic jam? u always 'braking' in nshw?
for my case, i ever hit 80km/litre aso, kaulat...
no problem one.
regards.

Bro iagree,
Is your sentence typo ? Else you hit record liao. :bleh:

I think it is more likely 18km/l.
I have not heard of any cars, even hybrids, achieving 80km/l.

Bo, tks for the reply. I understand that with the speed i tavel in nshw, the fuel consumption will be bad... but what i mean is that after i come back to sg, the fuel consumption is worse then b4 i go malaysia.
-
why dun you continue to monitor? my previous lancer some times also siao siao one. same driving habit but once a while the FC suffer greatly then after abt 2 tanks then back to normal. at times the FC is improve by itself. really is siao one.
btw i'm speaking with my experience nia.

1) check air pressure after your long trip. Low pressure = bad FC
2) Finish the current tank 10Km beyond the blinking light then top up SG petrol and monitor again. I dont any how pump petrol in malaysia, must check. Some individual station serve you "special" petrol or the their pump get tuned to give you less than what you pay for.
3) is it about time to change your EO and air filter?
4) ECU think you drive toooo slow now, need time to relearn. :bleh: then search for ECU reset in the forum.

hi jazz
u r sharp, iagree with u, typo liao.
is 8km/litre :) thanks.

hi miniwhite
i thk there is sthing wrong with your ride already.
actually, i aso feel like my ride quite bo lat since last mth... donno y leh... sianz, wed when i serviced at tcm, i forgot to tell the SE.
but they testdrive my ride aso after servicing, didnt write any note regarding the car bo lat aso leh? seem normal.
may be is my wrong feeling?
-
mayb monitor 1-2 tanks c how it goes, if still the same then go back tcm, but i tink it will be normal after awhile. mayb during nsh u drive fast then back sg slow down and ur ecu may not haf recover back yet.
-
Thanks for all the bro out here who reply. Guess i will continue to monitor for another tank or two.

Unless when you pumped in MY, you have tilted your car, thus the F indicator is actually to your brim, but once you back to SG, the pump attendant pumped your fuel will stop automatically when the pump trip. Just my guess.

I got a question. You pump that tank in SG or MY just before you enter SG? long wait at custom?

how to check the air pressure? tyre pressure or air pressure?

I pump the tank b4 i return to Sg but there wasnt a haeavy jam at the check point.
-

I believe he meant tyre air pressure which result if low tyre air pressure = bad FC.

Yes tyre pressure, just go petrol station to pump.

I suspect it could be due to the petrol you pumped in Malaysia.
Try changing your fuel filter and see if there's any improvements after pumping S'pore petrol.

I've also encountered this problem myself. After a trip to Ipoh and back, the FC was horrible. Worse I encountered was like 11kml for the first few tanks after the trip. Now, back in Singapore, I can usually get no less than 14 kml.

It depends on a lot of factors.
In Malaysia, we tend to speed, and speeds above 100 are very bad for FC. Of course, driving too slowly is unacceptable of course. Keep around 120km/h and you should be around the 13-14km/l mark, from my personal experience.
How many people and luggage are you carrying? Dun expect to have good FC is you ferry 5 people with full luggage.
In Singapore, we normally don't do that, so FC should be better.
