For the stock brake pads that comes with the car, does the rear or front one wears off first?

brake on front wheels normaly called brake pad and those in the rear drum called brake shoe.

Since Latio fis ront wheel drive so brake pad wear off first.

Brake shoe got 2 pieces each side. One peice will wear off faster than the other piece because the one nearer to your boot only active when you use parking brake (leg brake).

When it wear off? IMO, don't have to follow 40k change front pad, 80k change rear shoe as each of us use the car differently. If you notice your brake not as good as before or the braking distance get longer. Then it is time to check/service your tyre and brake system else just use it.

Tks for the explanation.

Autosaver Kaki Bukit tried to con me!  Was trying to convince me that rear brake shoe needs to change when i did servicing at 40K.  Says that the Nissian brake shoe wears off faster than front brake pad!  Lucky never take his advice.  :glare:

why will the brake pads wear off first for front wheel driven cars?

The previous mech, Ah boon is a honest chap but now he is being transferred to Toh Guan.
Currently, the new chap, Ah Ming, try ways and means to convince that you need to change this and that.

Personally, I think Toh Guan and Defu branch is

My Latio front disc pads were changed at 80k servicing.  Rear brake shoes checked and found to be still serviceable at 120k.  The rate of wear also depends on type of driving (fast or normal) and braking (hard or normal).

not sure why the figure 5 animation rotate the other way round. Maybe the car is reversing.

I saw my used brake shoe during servicing, the piece with emergency mechanicsm wear much less. The original part have white wording printed on the side of the contact surface. I use one the letter "E" as marking. My 5 years old brake pad wear till the middle horizontal line of the letter "E" so I should have about 40% to go. But hei.. It is already 5 years, should I change brake shoe on the 9th year then may scarp the car one year later or should I start using a new brake shoe now till the 10th years? I decide to just change it when asked by autosaver.

most likely the diagram depicts the action of the braking system with the vehicle travelling towards the right

appears that the way that the brake cylinder and pistons work which are depicted at the top of the braking system (ie extending and pushing the pads towards the drum) results in higher wear at the "top" end of the pad located towards the front of the vehicle

Yes, wear is more towards the front of the vechicle. If our latio drive (fowards) to the right then the emergency brake part in the diagram should should be on the other half of brake shoe.

i noticed AS mechs got this habit of askin ppl to change brake pad/shoe whenever customers send in their cars for major service eg. 40k, 80k

its not as if they are chargin us cheap for the pads/shoes it cost a whoppin 135 bucks for 1 pair man

they tink latio is fairlady or skyline meh need to every 40k ask us to change brake pads as if it worn out dat fast, not so our car can go very fast & then need that kind of stoppin power.

applying the emergency brake mechanism actuates the brake cylinder and piston to push both pads towards the drum

and when activated in a parking situation - there is mimimal wear on the pads as the drum is not rotating
