Latio Engine pinging problem
« on: November 29, 2010, 12:19:18 PM »
To all latio owners who have this engine ping problem, I know if you send to Tan Chong the service adviser will tell you to pump RON 98 grade petrol. But you will realised this is not truth. I sent mine to auto workshop outside, the mechanic flush my fuel trottle carbon clean, check the spark plug and realised TC NPMP at 72k km servicing never changed, now at 74k km I asked the mechanic to change the 4 spark plugs iridium type. Now the engine ping is gone and the car is smooth and powerful.

I thought our car would normally lose power when going uphill? How to differentiate those normal lose power and this one?

Heard of people talking about engine pinging or knocking but honestly saying I still don't know how it sound like after close to 20 years of driving.  By the way I am suffering from "high tone deaf" so I cannot hear sound above 10KHz.  How the pinging sound like ?  Is it something like the vibration of L300 van exhaust that sound like eeeeeeeeee ?

Chip Soon Auto at Tampines (behind Safra)

Actually the ping still have a bit eventime pickup from 1st gear I realise. Guess this is due to 1.5l CVT lack of power for take off. Pump 98 seems more power and smoother, pump 95 ping quite abit and not as smooth when rpm reaches 3k. I am not going to bother this problem anymore but will continue to pump 98.
