Choosing between MSIG Ultimate Car Protector and Tenet Car insurance

(1/2) > >>

alangohek:
Hi,

I'm renewing my car insurance and sourcing around for quotes. My current insurer is the MSIG Ultimate Car Protector that I got through Standard Chartered Bank.

Found the Tenet car insurance through one of the online quotation websites. After comparing them thoroughly and reevaluating my needs, one the key deciding factors I have is presented below and appreciate your kind and frank advice:

1. MSIG offer but NOT Tenet: Gap Cover benefits in the event of total loss: Cover outstanding loan if market rate is insufficient to offset the balance amount

2. Tenet offer but NOT MSIG: NCD protector. My NCD is 30% and I have found all other insurance companies offer that when NCD reaches 50%.

Btw, my car is registered in May 2008, mileage: about 76K.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Alan

Thanks but not really concerned whether Tan Chong is the authorized workshop or not =)

I have hard time every year when it comes to this too. Have to balance between budget and coverage. So far MSIG has the best balance for my Latio. I have been with them since my Year-2 after AIG. The problem is that they are getting abit pricier already.

Here are some add-ons points for decision-making:

(1) The more options you want, you got to pay more.
(2) If you deem that you are overall a safe driver, don't bother about NCD protector until it's 50%.
(3) Cheaper insurances do not cover lotsa things like full settlement for total-loss, all-workshop, loss-of-use etc

Aviva is cheap upfront. But once you add some necessary options, it can be more than MSIG.

Another lower cost option: Tokio Marine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Kel.

My difficult decision considerations are whether to take Tenet on the basis of NCD protector and 14 days ($80 per day) loss of use offered by Tenet instead of my current insurer, MSIG which offer full settlement for total loss, any workshop and a lower loss of use benefits of 5 days ($50 per day).

Tenet is also slightly cheaper than MSIG.
