hi bro,the proper way is to step on the foot brake, activate ur parking brake(hand brake) then u select ur gear to 'P' position.by doing this u will not damaged ur safety device inside the gearbox.cos if u don't activate ur parking first,ur car will rolled back or forward,there will be a force acting on the safety device,sometimes u will have problem selecting ur lever from 'P' to 'D'.

Now I know ...... sheeesh.
Always shift to P before engage foot brake. No wonder morning sometimes difficult to engage from P to D liao. :crying:

NO bro,it's applied ur parking brake(hand brake for some cars) then u put ur gear lever to 'P'.
