I will be abit skeptical on that price. Where did you get the quote for 2.7k(ellipse auto)? I am still KIV-ing on my gearbox. As I am living on the east side, I found another company quoting 2k for changing second hand gearbox @ Jackson powertrain. The lady there told me that there is no way to overhaul CVT, say that those workshops that claim to do overhaul actually just take out the old GB and change a recon GB.

Usually it takes around 35 sec to get engaged to reverse with a bit of revving on the accelerator. As it was not affecting the forward drive, i just endure a little bit of delay when doing reversing and at times, got horn by behind car for being slow. Think of getting second hand gearbox but don't know if reliable or not as most likely, they came from scrapyard which workshop claim a recond set from japan...how to see the difference? Even with my regular 40k cvt oil change can have problem on the gearbox, i am having a second thought on this. It would be good if someone who has done cvt overhaul provide some feedback.

hi bro, i replaced my gb before, using a recon gb
the mechanic told me its from japan (dunno how true) and taken out from one of the cars which was scrapped in japan
so far, no issues with it and its been almost 2 years
getting a recon is cheaper than overhaul. as said by him. thought of saving some money but of course the integrity of the recon gb is questionable
hope this helps

Think confusing by technical term here.
If unable to overhaul, then how this term recond short for reconditioned come about.
If get from scrap yard, then it just a used gearbox instead of recond.
Recond mean if any gears, component or PCBA worn or in bad condition, require to change as in overhaul condition. Just my 2 cts of understanding and sharing.
