(Suspect) Odometer Being Tempered With

(1/2) > >>

baliem:
Folks,

Bought a 2nd hand Latio last month & just managed to retrieve previous owner's service history.

Based on Tan Chong's records, the previous owner clocks an average of about 5,000km every 3 months. The last servicing was done in June 2009 & the mileage was 48,491km then.

When I took over the vehice last month however, the mileage shows around 65,000+km which seems too good to be true. Hence, I suspect the dealer may have tempered with the odo.

Is there any way that I can verify whether the odo is tempered with and/or the actual milegae travelled? Many thanks in advance!

i know for some cars, plugging in the diagnostic tools will reveal the actual milage, any expert here can confirm?

frankly speaking, even if you know the odo is tempered with also i doubt you can do anything to the dealer.

I have heard car dealer tampering with odometer. Personally, I feel that this is dishonest and lack integrity. Question is whether there are constitutions that can be leveraged to address this legally.

I really want to see this practice curbed and dealers brought to justice. Not sure whether there is any precedent of such cases. If not, I hope that some day there will be a precedence set.

Just 2 cents. :)

Go and make a police report. They'll tell you to go to LTA. Don't waste yr time going to LTA. Police should take up this case as it's considered cheating. If they don't, write in to their feedback unit and "tell" them that you're going to write to newspaper forums if they don't take up your case. That will set them moving.

However, on a side note, it's hard for your case to prove that your odometer has been tampered, unless TC records show the mileage higher than your current one. BTW, which car dealer you bought yr car from? Can share so that we won't go there?
