high fuel consumption for latio sedan 2007
« on: December 09, 2013, 06:18:35 PM »
been driving for some time after getting my license this year
but the high fuel consumption have been on my mind
from the last servicing fuel consumption was pretty bad until they flush and change the oil and stuffs. It is better now but still clocking at about 1 litre for every 8.5-9.5km.
driving mainly on roads and seldom expressways
   :confused1:

Check your tyre pressure,
Or heavy foot?
Idle the car for long time more than 10mins?
What grade of petrol using?

front 270 rear 250 checking every 2 weeks.
bare foot most of the time and light footed acceleration to have a better feel.
usually if im waiting/stopping for more than 2mins i would turn off the engine
esso grade 98
pumping petrol at late night helps?
usually pump at night and self pump at slower speed than the 3 cache provided. heard it helps??  :confused1:

when im driving i open the windows and off the aircon but when with family members its usually on with either 1/2 fans between 24-26 degree
probably about 70% aircon and 30% without aircon and the range is about 8.5-9.5km/l.

what's the advise for accelerating from a stop at the traffic light?
light footed acceleration of about 1700-2100rpm or step about 2300-2600rpm until desired speed??  :confused1:

thanks for a the help and advise so far and future comments..  ;D

Hum....here is my advice base on my experience....

1. Tyre pressure is on the high side....I pump 260 front 250 rear (195.60.R15)
2. Fuel grade 98 is good enough....I pump shell 95 but some time 98
3. Pump at late night never try....I most of the time pump myself with slow rate like you
4. Driving w/o AC will give you little more power....
5. Try to keep RPM around 2K....

Your idling RPM?
Check you gear oil and what grade of engine oil using...10W 40?
Last service?

Wow, Weili seem like you are fugal in your driving style.

By right you pump your tyres on the high side should be quite fuel saving, wonder what tyres are you using ?

What brand and grade of your engine oil ?

Pump RON98 with your driving style is an overkill in my opinion, try to downgrade and save some money for upgrade

Is your rims sport rim ?

just had servicing done yesterday. replaced engine mounting , spark plugs and some others.
i was actually curious about the engine mounting price so i was searching and searching until i chanced upon this forum but my dad went ahead with the replacment anyway..
cooper tyres (195/65R15)
after servicing
idling rpm is 800 (before 1000)
engine oil is synace sae 5w40

i know 98 is an overkill but dad likes 98 because car dealer said so....  :D
sport rim - yes

what do you mean by oversize??
using 185/65R15 would be a better option than 195/65R15??
the other time the tyres were going to be botak so for safety it was changed to the current size by the mechanics..

Should not be much of an issue as i am also using Bridgestone Turunza T001 195/65R15 which i am still getting around 13km/litre with my mileage of 240K.

is it true that OEM spark plugs has a serviceability of 120000km?

just change spark plugs from OEM to denso but am also curious about what type and brand of spark plugs would you recommended and how long are their servicability??

probably the spark plugs had been worn out until drop in fuel consumption.. hoping to see a rise in mileage in the next few fuel pumps..
