Strange smell from Aircon

<< < (4/5) > >>

winxp:
Hmm..i thought i was the only one having this strange smell. The strange thing is that i don't recall having this smell previously (have been driving Latio for more than a yr now). The smell will appear for a short period when i step on the gas and engine rev.

Can't be the ionizer right? Ionizer will not be linked to engine rev...but so far it has not affected the car in any way...just worried that the smell might be due to some leakage or problem.

Dun think buying a charcoal bag will help for me as the smell does not last..it goes away seconds after the engine rev.

CustomGolf:
Think the smell come when your rev your engine, the higher the rev, the faster the smell comes. After revving my ride more, I don't notice the smell anymore, perhaps, I got used to it.

I get this strange chemical-ish smell from the air con now and then whenever I rev high somewhere abt 2.5k - 3k .
Anyone got any idea if this is normal? I asked TC during servicing and they said is some chemical by the ionizer.. but i thot ionizer
no chemical one? If i am not wrong, i thot ionizer is purely electrical..?

My car has this smell. Quite pleasant like vanilla. Got it the first week I collected my new Latio Sport.
Presents itself when I rev sudden. Lasts around 2-3 seconds.

My theory is that the air con has to filter extra pollutants (burnt tyres??) when revving, and the output is this smell?
My 1K servicing - I told the Nissan folks. They only topped up my coolant. :(

Midnight:
Let me revive this old thread, Recently i encountered 2 times. The 'vanilla' smell came suddenly when i rev up suddenly for a period of about 2 sec only. The smell seems to be different from the smell produced by the ionizer when it is operating normally (when i am not rev-ing). My immediately thought is that something got burnt.

Has anyone got any logical explanation from Tan Chong or whatsoever?

I be watching this thread... if anyone has a solution.  ;D

Try changing your air con filter to solve this problem.
