This is not normal. If the puncture is on the treaded portion, a proper patch job will make it good as new.
Happened to my last set of tires. Ran ok and held pressures till last weekend when i got poisoned :thumbsup:.
For new tires, will have also need to check every week at least for a bout a month because it takes a while for the bead to seat fully into the rims.
Can buy tire pressure gauges from petrol station or autobacs or diy stores. From $4 for cheap mechanical ones to $12 for digital ones to $30+ for pro gauges (with air release).

Check with bro who are Shell user.... think few months back. they gave the gauge (pressure/thread) for free....
Ive gave away all except one for own usage....

the free gauge the petrol stn give imho not so good.. very buay zhun. what i normally do is just pump air regularly... maybe 1 or 2 times a month.
for me if the tyre lao hong with a nail quite scary. i won't risk it. usually i will find somewhere trade in then change a new tyre...
