Brake "Problem"

<< < (2/4) > >>

Xmen:
Did the sound appear when braking at low speed?

I had the same problem, after servicing at TC Toa Payoh. Till today, I cannot accept that the brake rotor's surface was uneven. Explanation given was frequent braking and car wash. Initially, they skimmed the brake rotor. But I was unable to accept the work as I would not be able to skim again (if too thin) or when the same problem occurs after warranty period (who will pay). Eventually, they replaced a new brake rotor for me.

clarence:
Did your problem go away after they replaced the brake disc rotor for you?

Xmen:
Yup, problem solved!

detach8:
what? they actually SKIM your disk rotors? what a cheap job...
skimmed rotors, if skimmed badly, will cause more problem in the long run. this is what happened on my old car - the newly skimmed rotor worked great.. for about 10,000km before the same old problem came up

skimming makes the discs thin, thereby causing it to warp if under high temperatures or stress. depending on how good the skim job is, it can be over-skimmed

the latio discs are a little small for the size and weight of the car imho.. skimming it is really scary. i think a pair of brake discs cost like few hundred bucks. (last time i change a renault front disc pair is ~$400, jap car should be cheaper)

clarence:
I always try not to follow too closely behind the car in front, as the Latio's small brake rotor and brake calipers, and its rear drum brakes are not as effective as a similar capacity car with front and rear disc brakes like the Toyota Vios.
