Oh, you are right, iagree with u fully.

Ya, it is abt 800km (with gear at "D"). I am referring to the early morning when we start our engine first time of the day. I noticed when the gear is at "P", the RPM is higher.

Regards.

You meant 800rpm?  ;)

It is normal for rpm to be higher when gear is in 'P'.

This is because the ECU sends a message to the engine to high rev (high rpm) to warm up the engine faster to achieve optimum operating temperature.

Ya...sb 800rpm, i meant it's during idle, eg at traffic light, normally i turn to "N" while waiting...

I was told that frequent changing of gear (eg. N to D) will cause damage to the gearbox.

Personally, if I anticipate a long wait at the traffic light or any stop/ junction, I will change from D to N, to save fuel. But if it is only for a few seconds wait, I would leave it to D.

SoL:
Well if its those very long lights like a few minutes, its better to switch off engine. Ignition only takes about 10sec worth of fuel afterall. But make sure you're familiar with the lights and know when to switch on, or else light green le you haven't move sure tio horn!

In europe and other countries, its the law to switch off engine at long lights. Save fuel and reduce pollution. ;D
