Do you use the "Over Drive" often?
HumbleCar:
As shared in my previous post further up, the ON/OFF thingy is confusing to some extent. To put this in simple term, during normal driving, make sure that the light is off. Won't go wrong one.
SoL:
OD is like the fourth gear. When you start the engine, the light is off, meaning OD is on. Lets you save fuel mah.
Then if you want to press the button, the OD OFF button lights up, meaning now OD is OFF, and you can get up to third gear only. So to save fuel, don't touch the button at all. If you want more speed, can always step harder on the accelerator mah!

i'm so :confused1: whenever i start my latio, there's no OD light indicator.... so this is normal driving mode?

--- Quote from: sparkbt on October 03, 2008, 09:43:55 AM ---To simpify things,
1. When you engage OD button, OD light appear on your panel with label "OD OFF"
2. This is to remind you to turn it OFF
3. Press OD button again, OD light will disappear on your panel
4. This tell you that you car is back to nromal driving mode.
Hope this help. :yehyeh:

Some changes :
1. When you engage OD button, OD light appear on your panel with label "OD OFF"
- This is to tell you that the gear ratio is lock to highest Gear 3 (Gear 1 =>2=>3).
2. Press OD button again, OD light will disappear on your panel
- This tell you that you car is back to normal driving mode (Gear 1 =>2=>3=>4)
Something extra ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overdrive_(mechanics) ):
Overdrive can refer to two different things. An overdrive is a device which was commonly used in automobiles to allow the choice of an extra-high overall gear ratio for high speed cruising, thus saving fuel, at the cost of less torque.
It also refers to a combination of gearing inside a transmission or transaxle which results in the output speed being greater than the input speed. In the latter case, "overdrive" does not refer to a physically separate identifiable part/assembly.

"Each time the engine is started, the transmission is automatically reset to OD "ON"."
"Push the OD switch to turn the OD "ON". The OD off indicator light will turn off.
In short, when OD is ON, the OD off indicator light should be off; when OD is OFF, the OD off indicator light should light up.

OK,it means that when you start the car, there is no orange colour light in the meter cluster once your engine is started, which is the normal way to drive the car, with the OD on which will give you the final drive which is the 4th gear, and even in 4th gear, you'll notice that there is a drop in rpm once you're crusing, believe is due to the torque converter in the AT box. You'll only need to hit the OD button to drop gear to overtake or to accelerate, and when you hit that button, the OD off light comes on in the meter cluster.
