2 steps:
When parking the car, first push to N, apply hand break (foot break for our latio), release break.
Step on break again, and push gear to P.  Then off engine.

This is to ensure no stress for the transmission gears due to uneven surface or slopes.  So when next time start engine, you can shift the gear from P to D more smoothly.

I usually off engine when in N.  Just quickly step on break then push gear to P.

then you get the alarm sound when you off engine for "Gear not in P" every time you park your car?

Dun think the alarm will sound off in this case...there was a few occasion i switch off engine with the gear not in P....alarm did not sound off...except tat i can't start the engine again until i shift the gear to P....

I didn't remember any alarm sound for so many months of doing this.

The main idea is to apply hand brake in gear N.  So that the car is completed stopped before shifting gear to P.  It doesn't matter if you off engine in N or P.

Any roll back or movement of the car will cause stress on the gear.

Dun worry so much lar....jus enjoy ur ride...think of it this way...if there is no wear & tear...then there will be no excuse to change car after 2-3 years right? Imagine ur car is in tip top condition in terms of appearance and engine wise....then u see other cars newer with more chio outlook...then u look at ur tip top old model latio...signing tat the condition too good to sell it....haha......my way of using things........:bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh:
