I think we're talking about the parking brake. It won't wear out unless you drive off with it~!  ;D

i meant that the parking brake activates the brake pads to "hold" the car in a parking position

so as the brake pads wear out under normal braking, the travel distance required to fully engage the parking mechanism is increased due to the bigger clearance of the pads to the disc/drum

SoL:
Err, isn't the parking brake a seperate brake pad? On most cars its a smaller pad, activated by wire tension instead of fluids. Not too sure on Latio, you may be right!

Parking brakes are normally on the rear wheel. It should be usingthe same brake pads as the normal brakes.
