change of engine oil when servicing
« on: March 24, 2009, 12:20:23 AM »
hi all, i will be going for my 3rd servicing soon. my previous 2 servicing, they used mineral oil instead of Synthetic. my friend told me that u can actually requested for Synthetic for the 2nd servicing.

from my log card, i noticed that it stated "using Synthetic engine oil". my friend told me that i have to instruct them to wash throughtly to remove the mineral oil as it is normally very "dirty", before pouring the Synthetic oil. isit true that I have to inform the guys from TCM if not they will just ignore n not wash??

dun think u tell the service advisor he will ask the the mechanic to do it, even if he tell the mechanics to do it, dun tink they mechanics will it. u can't see how they service ur car.

Good point! didn't cross my mind the need until you brought this up. I was thinking changing oil filter will suffice. Purging out the "old" oil before replacement was neither mentioned in the job card nor in the QA checklist.

Can any bros or sis who is going to service their car at TCM check with the SA whether this process is part of their due diligence and share with us? Tks

that's engine flush, a service available in TCM workshop. It is to clear the mineral first before changing to syn EO. It cost $46 with their package.

according to a vendor, Fasflo EO used by TCM have a special feature, it can be used both without the engine flush so TCM may advice you the engine flush for relatively new car is not needed.

for the 3rd service u can choose to use back mineral oil again but when u hit 15k find a workshop outside to drain out the mineral oil and usin compressed air gun to blow out every single drip of oil before pourin in fresh synthetic oil.

There is a car workshop at bt timah rd Shell dat does dat, he charges labour $15 u can bring ur own oil filter for them to change too...

when i bought my latio sports, i was given free NYMP til 50k km or 2.5yrs free servicing. actually in fact is only 40k/2yrs NYMP free coz first 3 servicing (1k, 5k & 10k) is already free when u bought new car. so probably i will continue with TCM til i hit 50k km.
