Different brand of tire cause steering to veer one side?

Dear all,

Sent my car for servicing on Saturday. The SA recommend me NOT to do any tire rotation because one of my rear tire is of another brand, and rotating it to the front will result in 2 front tires of different brand which will cause steering to veer one side.

He suggest i change that one tire (the odd one out one) so that all 4 tires are same brand - Sumitomo brand, $89 /piece at TCM. Then he do tire rotation.

Alternatively, i can drive the existing tires until botak then change all 4 at one go.

What i like to check is: if the steering really veer one side due to different brand (because of different thread pattern?), how serious is it? Is it negligible. Anyone got any such experience?

its true that directional tires can cause pulling or veering.

Asymmetric tires are better in this aspect, have less "pull"

From my experience, the front 2 tires usually wear out faster than the rear 2.

So in my situation, i should forsee myself changing out all 4 tires once the front 2 become botak? (Because i cannot rotate the rear tire to the front due to veering).

yes, in most cases, the front 2 will definitely wear out faster due to the directional changes. But you do not need to swap all 4 jus because the front 2 has worn out. That will just make tire shops happy 

what you could practice though, is proper rotation every 10000 km to have their tires worn off more or less the same time.

another case is that your alignment's off and that might cause ur car to veer. Do get a proper alignment done to reduce the wear and tear rate of your tires.

So i guess for now i have to wait till my rear 2 tires almost wear off before i change them to the same brand.

And that would take almost double the time the front tires would wear off.

Is it a better choice then to just replace the "odd one out" tire now to become the same brand as others and start my tire rotation now?
