big trouble with FC
hwlee:
hmm.. i found.. if i want to archive above 14km/l... I just need to maintain 1 things.
1st is the RPM. You can heavy foot abit (but not OVER 3000RPM) at initial stage but after your car speed >60km/h, you should maintain it between 1500RPM and 2000RPM
With 2000RPM on road, our latio will hit around 100km/h liao (qualified to get Traffic ticket in Singapore).. :D
I don't mind to be turtle on road (I hope to be slow & safe driver). Many lation drive more faster than me (especially that pretty lady who speak loud:devil2:)
My driving pattern..
1. I think mostly I drive at Highway but sometime stuck inside heavy traffic jam. :D
2. I use stock 15 rim and I don't remember when my last time go and check my car's tyre pressure.
3. I prefer to use RON97 petrol and 100% sync engine oil.
4. I set Aircon temperature fix at 26 (day/night) with Auto Mode.
My own record
1. FC:
Worst: 11++km/l
Best: 16.73km/l (that's last sunday)
Happen: >350km with half-tank when trip north

26degree... thats room temperature!! Not hot meh?

--- Quote from: nakshire on November 13, 2009, 12:13:39 PM ---I think Ying's rationale for fuel consumption is that you control the car and not the other way round.
Acceleration, rpm, etc... they are all controlled by you. Whether you want the car to really move fast and perform up to your standard is up to you as to whether you press in hard or not.
But if you are letting the fuel consumption take over your driving style, and then making life very difficult for you (e.g. slow pickup, letting tons of cars overtake u because you are slow), then you should really consider whether driving is suitable for you or not.
it is good that we monitor the FC of our car so that we know whether our car is cranking up or not. But if we overdo it and let the car determine our driving style, we will be suffering rather than enjoying the ride.
For me, i tried the fuel saving method for a tank and hit about 14.8km/l, 60%hw40%city. but not shiok!
- car no air con, hot
- cars overtake me (sian)
- cars high beam at me because i'm slow
- 80km/h at expressway. (3rd lane too fast, 2nd lane too slow)
Then I shifted my style back to heavy foot. FC drops to 12.4km/l
assuming full tank, total savings for fuel saving is $31.88.
- car with air con at 23 degrees (cooler ride)
- i overtake lots of cars who is jamming up the road now
- i dun high beam people. so i tail lor!
- Fast rides on expressways. sometimes go up to 120km/h. (some other lations here drive even faster than me)
with all that in exchange for a full tank, i will rather do it. $31.80 for 1.5weeks of good ride. Its worth every single penny. :)

Fully agree to what ying & nakshire mention.
Dun let the FC control u over too much. monitoring of FC is juz to allow u to monitor your car performance on fuel. unless u encounter a drastic drop like noone else then mayb u can highlight to your SE or dun to special situation.
if not no matter ur FC range from 10km/l to 14km/l u still will be driving this car of yours. So juz enjoy ur car ride lor.
my driving patter on highway most of the time at lane 1. if can always maintain 110km/h or 120km/l :devil2:
guess i'm quite a heavy footer most of the time. :out:
And i on my aircon auto to 25 degree (day/night)
but still maintain my FC quite constant at 12.5km/l
but like what Hwlee said maintain it between 1.5k rpm and 2k rpm. is that truth?
i read thru an article it said initial move off already then the FC improve by maintain 2.5k RPM. anyone to highlighten me this point. :confused1: :confused1:

26 degree is just nice weather for me. Last night I turn to 27 degree as TOO cold. :bleh:
I will turn to 24 degree only if behind got passenger.
In fact, I totally agree what ying & nakshire mention on FC issue. what Mr_chr|s saids also true. We records down the FC is to monitor the car performance.
No matter your FC is 11km/l or >16km/l, it still your car at this moment.
It like issue of currency exchange rate. This stall give you a rate SGD1=RM2.41..that stall give you a rate SGD1=RM2.42... if you just going to exchange for SGD100, the different is really "small". But if you going to exchange for SGD100,000...you also just got SGD1,000 different mah (which someone will think it is "small" as well).
p/s: to Mr_chr|s, most of the cars in market will have best FC if we drive in range of 80km/h-90km/h consistently (you can go and check those car advertisement which mention about their BEST fc). Different car got different range of RPM while it reach 80km/h-90km/h. As I know, mostly old car (i mean Engine design) take around 2500RPM to reach 80-90km/h and mostly new car with new engine (especially VTEC, VVT-i, MiVec..etc) take below 2000RPM to reach 80-90km/h. That's why mostly new car can save more petrol instead of old car.
In fact, RPM can not be a reference to FC. It is matter of how fast you can drive "consistently". that's why driving at HW got better FC than driving in City (but if HW is jam, both FC should be similar)
I remember last time when I drive my old car, i got monitor my FC with the speed different. My ex-car take 2500RPM to reach 80-90km/h. If i don't consistently maintain around 2500rpm, I will lost extra 100km with full tank while driving at KL area (which everywhere is SUPER jam).
Mr_chr|s:
thks bro for clearing my doubts.
cheers
