Best GPS mounting place? Since the lighter port is not at the central console...

Was looking around for bluetooth handsfree and GPS and found out Garmin 1460 seems to fit everything I want. However, getting the thing mounted could be a challenge to me.....shall I run the power wire all the way down to the lighter location? Or shall I just run on its own battery?
Would like to hear from you guys.....haven't bought yet, currently Garmin 1460 is selling at $499, anybody is using it? How's the bluetooth handsfree quality compare to Blueant ST3?

I'm using Garmin 765, I use both battery and power from the lighter as and when it needed.
tingshen:
Cool, when needed.I think should be fine coz it is not like handphone...

Hi tingshen,
I am using Garmin nüvi® 1350. Placed it at the center bottom of the windscreen, slightly to the front passenger side.
Half battery can last you multiple trips anywhere within Singapore.
When I drove to KL with the Garmin GPS, the full battery lasted me from Pagoh rest point to Sg Besi.
