Just some public opinion

I was damn surprised J50 lasted for about 30k for me. considering my dad, who drives like a snail, could skid twice on that tyre, on dry road.
-
Changed mine immediately when got car
-
swop mine 3 hrs aft gettin my new ride... haha upgraded to bigger rims size too
-
maybe TS is looking for some good time to change tyres after wear and tear....
not aesthetic purpose.
-
yupyup change mine as well once gt my ride.... :devil2:
-
Nice participation. Hope more bros can chip in...
just wondering why stock tyres so slippery aft abt 30+k......

For the average non-performance tyres, 30+KM is a typical milege to get the tyres changed so that is hardly surprising.

Changed my tyres at about 13K, and upgrade rims. No..no stock tyres no good. Good for pt A to pt B driving. Just that want more stability and normally highway drive around 100 - 110 km/hr. Also quite good value to trade in my stock offered by the tyre shop.
-
I noticed that most forumers gave feedback that the stock Toyo J50 tyres "cannot make it"?
"Cannot make it" in what sense?
Mine has been serving me well for 20,000km with some hard cornering and I travel at 100km/h on the highway.
No complaints about this tyre.
-
agreed with vortex.
for my case.. after driving abt 2-3k.. i decided to change to falken 912...
toyo J50 does not seem to have good grip even on dry weather.
fyi, i do not speed.

coz you have not been in those close encounters where you will notice J50 is not up to your expectation

I have Emergency braked and activated the ABS several times, and I find the stock Toyo J50 tyres do their job well.
-
i've hit over 35k with my stock Toyo tyres...
up & down SIN-KL...at 150km/h...
so far...no problem for me... :cool2:
only when raining...slippery surface....me more slower & more careful than usual.. :zipped:
but then again...
me gettin the itch to change tyres & rims now... :bleh:

to each his own, and I belong to the camp that think otherwise.

Upgraded to second hand light weight 17" with PP2 tyres after 10K mileage, stock J50 just scare me out of daylight with skidding on dry surface occasionally. Secondly have to pump everyweek coz look like "punchek".
-

I am very concerned how your stock Toyo tyres could skid on a dry surface when there is ABS.
I have never experienced any skid even during a heavy downpour like this morning. My mileage is now over 20,000km.
Could it be your tyres were under inflated?
Or did the skid occur when you were tracking in Sepang etc?
Or did you executed an aggressive cornering at high speed above the legal limit?
-
My Mileage around 46k now still on stock tyre.. but thinking change to XM1 coz almost botak liao.. so far so good with stock!! :yehyeh:

When tyres skid doesn't mean ABS has to be activated ....... since your mileage is low, dun think you have much experience on the road.
My tyres underinflate ? Seem like you do not understand my sentence that I pump my tyres everyweek.
What presumption from you that I go to Sepang ?
What is the legal limit for cornering as define by you as aggressive and what kind of corner are you referring at ?
-
still on Toyo J50 - mileage is 45k km - tread depth still good = 3.00 mm above the tread wear indicator
Toyo tyres ---> Quality grades = Treadwear grade 220, Traction grade A, Temperature grade A
(information on sidewalls of tyres)
What are the quality grades for the other brands and models?

I don't have this problem on my stock Toyo tyres.
Could it be the rough floor surface on your multi storey car park is worn out?

In all my cars, I use the stock tyres till they are almost bald before changing to after mkt ones and don't have any problem.
I wonder why many car buyers always complain that the stock tyres are no good, not just for Latio but other makes too.
People say the Yokohama A300 is no good on wet road, but I have used it through its useful lifespan and have not had any accident even when travelling in the wet.
When my existing stock tyres are due to be changed, I will post here to see who wants to let go their new stock tyres at a bargain to me.

I am not complaining that all stock tyres are no good. My M3 is still using stock and mileage is 40k and the grip is still pretty good. Just so happen that latio stock was not good for me. During the course of my job, I often have to travel on uneven road for some distance and stock tyres do not feel so good esp after a heavy downpour with pools of water everywhere....
since my son is born, I have decided to change the stock so that my latio will have better grip when my son is travelling with me...of all the cars i have owned previously, this is the first car that i change out the stock so early....

I’d say whether a tyre is "good" really depends on a combination of individual driving style, the typical road conditions you travel in, and personal expectations.
One person may say the tyre "grips like hell and ride is smooth as butter", while another person may say it "corners like you're on butter, and ride is noisy like hell".
Bottom line : If you feel comfortable with the tyre, it is probably good enough for you.
If you feel unsafe or dissatisfied, then it's better to change even if other people have good experience with it.
No point driving with this uncomfortable feeling, right?

replaced stock tyre when car is one-year old
what a great difference, handling was so much better with a wider 'width'
should have changed once i got the car ;D

I got the LS 2000 H II on 195/60/R15 for stock rim,....looks perfectly fine. Perhaps due to stiffer sidewalls.
-
Sylphy 1.5 is using 195/65R15 on rims similar to Latio's.
Tyre looks like it is bulging out.

Tyre looks like it is bulging out.
there are 3 "sad" facts to note
1 - Most tire models comes with at least 195/60/15
2 - Most retailers do not carry our "unpopular" stock sizes, even if the manufacturer do produce them.
3 - tyre "lips" are mostly steel belted. looks can be deceiving, the bulging look is due to design more than unsuitable fitment.
