Title: 1 tyre different width..
Post by: jalan on March 29, 2010, 06:13:58 PM
Hi all,

My Latio front right stocked Toyo tyre
Original Toyo 185/65R15 , running for abt 20K ...punctured and

Was changed to Good year 195/60R15 ( 1pc ),
i ask for similar size tyre but tyre shop say no similar size..
mechanic ask me use 195/60R15 ...saying no difference...can be use..

i was driving with it for close to 1 month ... os far no problem...

Any advice on the odd 1 out tyre size,,, will it cause other tyres to wear out faster ???

your goodyear tyre might wear off faster as the loads are upon the new tyre.

How come he never ask you to use your spare boot tyre instead if you can accept the difference.

195/60-15 has a 1.05% diff according to tyre calculator, so there suppose to have a difference as your new tyre radius and circumference is smaller, turning should have a little impact. This is first time I hear of your case as 1 tyre difference, usually min 2 tyre differences either front or rear.

Original tire
  Sidewall: 4.73 in
  Radius: 12.23 in
  Diameter: 24.47 in
  Circumf: 76.87 in
  Revs/mile: 824.25

New Tire
  Sidewall: 4.61 in
  Radius: 12.11 in
  Diameter: 24.21 in
  Circumf: 76.07 in
  Revs/mile: 832.96

spare tyre is only for emergency short distance use, not for regular use i think.

How much you pay for 1 tyre in P.H?

Maybe you can check with arrow tyre as i see they have a wide range of toyo tyres when i change my battery there.

If you don't want to change the whole set of 4, the norm is at least change in pairs (ie. 2 tyres).
For your case, change the front 2 tyres.

thanks bro ,for your information.
after changing the gd year 195 size tyre .. and drive for 2 weeks +
, my rear right stocked tyre got punctured ...

now i am confused whether it is the incorrect size front tyre that cause the rear tyre to get punctured easier or i am just damn unlucky..

should i change back the front tyre to 185 size as i will be going for my 20K servicing...
better for tyre rotating ?

should i change out the fairly new gd year 195/60R15  ? back to a new toyo 185/65R15 ...

or should i change out the old left front toyo 185/65R15 to make both front tyre 195/60R15   ??

what will be the better choice ?

Dun worry, tyre punctured has nothing to do with your front tyre incorrect size, even all 4 same will encounter tyre puncture too.

Yes, should change back to the same size for tyre rotation, recommended for safety as well.

wondering if the punctures are located in the treads or the sidewalls?

if the punctures are located in the treads, they can be repaired

thanks bro ...i know can be mended...

my scenario is very funny...
1st punctured on treads ... .but because it is my BIL drove and puntured it,
he insist to pay me $ to change new tyre ... i mend the punctured tyre and keep
then dunno Y go PH and install 1pc 195size tyre...

then 2nd time ,,,, punctured until i dunno... drove awhile then find out ....
this time side wall damaged liao cannot repair.
now i use spare tyre as rear , change out the rims... the 1st mended tyre keep at boot as spare.

best to put back the 1st repaired tyre so that you have same profile tyres all round as you still have 4 numbers of Toyo 185s
