Title: Muffer for latio. Disappointed in TC svc
Post by: dfnl on April 26, 2010, 05:14:40 PM
Any latio sport owners here encounter the same problem as I do? Apparently I think there is a flaw in the design of latio exhaust muffer. I always scratch or knock onto the exhaust muffer whenever I reverse. The stock muffer seems to be very low and cannot clear the carpark kerbs. Recently I knock onto the muffer and part of the
exhaust piping in the middle of the car came off. Thus creating a very annoyng sound when the car is nationary or moving.
When back TC argue with them in the end they charge me labour cost ($45) for straightening back the exhaust pipe. And I was still under warranty!! Bearing in mind the car was stock and it fails to clear the carpark
kerbs whenever I reverse.
I wonder those that lower their cars with coilovers/lowering spring even worst off when reverse?
I have been pondering to lower my car but nw I hesitate.

I already had the spring stopper installed to prevent the car fm sinking down too much with pax at the back. best part is I knock on the muffer w/o any pax most of the time. I had 4 reverse sensor. Install one more set of spy reverse sensor at the back. Doesn't help much mostly only beep louder and earlier when I reverse.

Try to argue my way and the TC guy still tell me all their cars measure to be able
to clear most kerbs. Looks like I scratch most of the time rather then clearing the kerbs.
Above all they can tell me what's my problem instantly when I tell them their is a loud noise at the bottom of the car. I bet alot of complaints on that. Flake them!

Just not so willingly to pay for their design flaw!! FOS

change ur parking habit, why ppl always like to reverse so deep into the lot till tyre hit the kerb? this is very common, latio muffler are big & low.

Ask exhaust shop to adjust the muffler and tail pipe.  My suspension is lowered and yet do not hit the exhaust, but hit the rear hook!   :D

Do not reverse until ur rear wheel touch the kerb. Leave a gap behind. Change ur driving habits to suit the car.

Yeah went back this evening park the car outer. So not used to park so out. Know sometimes some 'ka-you' drivers come up the multistory slope they never turn their car back in time, those cars near to the slope will be in danger of hit and run. Recently my blk got one Altis the front kena hit cos he park the lot near the slope where cars come up. Some 'ka-you' ram onto his front bumper.. So sad.

Can the exhaust shop realign the height of the stock muffer? Will be great if possible. Charge only workmanship fee right? That is one option to consider. True the stock muffer is big and bulky somemore so low.

I just can't help feeling that the new latio in the showrm the muffer height seems higher lor. I was exploring the muffer of the showrm model while waiting for my car to be done. TC definitely know that just that they choose not to admit it's their flaw.

i dun how whether i am right not, but i thought TC is only a authorised car dealer. The one that come out with the design of the car, including the height of the muffler is Nissan. TC is only providing the sale, the warranty coverage, the servicing, etc. Might be more useful if u write in to Nissan straight...

I did it in JB exhaust shop.  Will involve welding.

Yeah it's Nissan motors instead of TC. They are only the authorised dealer that's all.

Go JB do unless u familar with someone if not chances are they will treat u like a chopping board too.

better dun do anything to ur exhaust until your warranty is over. Furthermore, anyhow change, later ur car become LTA unfriendly.

It is the design of the car. Latio is made to be comfortable, thats why people sit behind will sink and then hit the muffler. Its a compromise. ARbo u change to those aftermarket exos tips, which may affect the performance of the car cos the exos mouth thinner... (what i think it will become).

Aftermarket exos, illegal one damn cheap. legal one damn expensive.

just change ur driving habits. Changing the muffler will only lead u to more problems and troubles abt being LTA friendly. If u die die want to change, I suggest you go fong kim and do up extractor + aftermarket straight tru thin muffler. Go all the way illegal. haha.

Just my 2 cents. Ignore my BS. its 1:30am in the morning  :yehyeh:

what i notice many ppl in sg like to park until the tries touch the kerb (all the way in). out latio is not that long so just roughly estimate rear bumper near the kerb stop can already.

i have no problem with my muffler but i have problem with my sideskirt haha due to my lowered ride

try changin the muffler stifferner rubbers it helps to lift up the muffler slightly higher in position as the rubbers are made of better quality and is not so soft compared to the stock ones...

I got mine at jeep chee exhaust at ubi, tink its $40 a pair but u need three pcs.

How much will it cost on avg for these after mkt muffers? Not to mentioned those high end ones for super street racers. The muffer on itself shldnt be that costly??

Do you guys get the problem of the spring bottoming out when taking 3 passengers at the back? If so, then go to TC and complain, they will change to stiffer spring.

This will eliminate the muffler height problem too. Only thing is the gap between tyre and wheel arc will be slightly bigger.

Do it search, it's been discussed to death earlier.  :bleh:

If no one is sitting at the rear it would be fine but if there are 3 pax at the rear it would still scratch. I kena when I tot it was ok since mine spi\ring was ever changed.
