Title: HELP!! Fluctuating RPM!
Post by: retrospective on June 06, 2010, 11:18:18 PM
Fellow forumers...need some big help here....

1. My mechanics tried to clean my throttle valve as it was dirty. He used some throttle cleaner..sprayed into throttle body.

2. However, after cleaning, the RPM starts to fluctuates from 2000 to 3000! No Engine check light was observed. And noticed that if I were to engage into 'D' or reverse gear, RPM drop to 1000-1200 and no fluctuation.

3. Tried to disconnect batt to reset ECU but no change.

4. Suspect ECU trying to relearn, so let the engine run for sometime. Subsequent went drive around. But no change.

5.so anyone know what could be the problem?

sigh...pretty sad..that a simple servicing has gone south.....

yap.. he spray in the cleaner at first... n rev the engine.
But engine die.. he said latio too sensitive to high air flow. Then he took out the body to clean..

Same thing happened to me after TB cleaning.
Did the full reset, inclusive of the air vol thingy,.. then my rpm normalised.

Go thru the reset again and see how,..
worst case scenario, just go to TCM and get them to reset lor

I cant find the actual thread for the procedure, but this is what i took down

Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning

Operation Procedure

1. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
5. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.

Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning

Operation Procedures

1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch is “ON”.
3. Turn ignition switch is “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that the throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.

Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning)

It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.

Operation Procedures

1. Perform “Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning”.
2. Perform “Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning”.
3. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
4. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
5. Conform that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
6. Repeat the following (steps 7a, 7b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
7a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD)
7b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
8. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the Check Engine Light (CEL) stops blinking and turned ON.
9. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the CEL is ON.
10. Start engine and let it idle.
11. Wait 20 seconds.
12. Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure the idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.

Normally when this thing happen, you need to do consult tuning and reset the ECU.

Hi bro,

moikley fuel sensor problem. My hyundai accent 2000 model had the same problem, replaced under warranty last time. Good luck.

I have the same issues after the throttle cleaning...also, tried to reset the ECU as per highlighted but invalid..sent back to the
mechanics who done the throttle cleaning...basically, he used the Consult System or equivalent and after resetting the ECU, this phenomenon just went off like that. According to this mechanics, the fluctuation would not happen to all Latio but some of them
would have the same experience like us...Pls engage your mechanics,or worst case to TCM or Autosaver for ECU Reset ! I knew this  was damn frustrating.
