Title: Share Experience on change of Shock Aborber
Post by: robtan99 on January 06, 2011, 09:39:58 PM

I have changed the shock abosrber to KYB after 100k mileage.  Never know it is best to change the rubber stopper + mounting cap at the same time.

Now has to pay separate labour for this to be done.

Note to all fella lations who is changing shock absorber due to wear and tear.  also change rubber stopper + mounting cap if not will create click-tok sound when going over the hump.

If your mounting is not cracked no need to change then. The cracked line can be seen visible. The rubber stopper you refer to the shock absorber dustcover? if it is broken then have to change together with shock absorber to protect it.

Mounting may not crack at the point when we replace shock absorber. Seem that out latio mounting and absorber up lorry almost the same time?
So I think is good that we replace 2gthe rite? Where can we get the rubber stopper + mounting cap.

acutally rubber is more important.  Our stock absorber is known to be soft.  So when you changed to stiffer KYB due to wear and tear,
it is advisable to change the rubber too.

My case here is because the existing rubber has cracked which cause the KYB absorber to damage the mounting cap.  I just
changed at autoaid. Damage is around $289.

-----------------------------------------------------
Cost of rubber from stockist is 38 for one side. Autoaid is 35
Cost of mounting cap from sockist is 55 for one side. Auto aid is 70

Labour is $60.

[/quote how much do you pay for your KYB shock absorber in all? I was quoted for 680sin without labor.

How about the lower arm Joint (The ball joint)?

I know to replace the lower arm ball joint, shock absorber, the rubber guard involve the same labour work so can bargain for a good price if change all together. If possible can do it together with wheel rotation and alignment too.

Is there a way for us to inspect if the mounting cap was damage?
possible to provide part number?
Thanks

Guys, how do we check if the WS has indeed changed my stock shock absorbers to KYB? Recently changed all the shock absorbers, and requested for KYB. But during car collection, it was pouring too heavily, and the WS was packed with cars under repair, so I couldn't check if they indeed changed it to KYB or some other brand...

I think with the current high COE, i have to keep my car for at least another 2 years..

time to change the 4 x absorbers, the rubber mounts, the rubber dust covers, the lower arm ball joint..

I tot you are able to see the shock absorber through the gap between the fender and the tyre unless you have less than one finger gap?

River view seems friendly. Haven't tried out their service but was told by my friend they are quite good. I have to settle my air con too. It kept blowing at my feet. . . Brrr....

I just changed my rubber mount, top cap and sock absorber for the front.. Do I need to do alignment? The mechanics didn't mention anything about it.. But I got this feeling here's may be a slight drift to the left.

Where you change yours and how much it cost? Just did my 130k servicing at Autosaver and saw the crack for absorber and lower arm joint. Mounting cap also crack. Mechanic recommend to change all 4 at the same time. Was planning to drive to KL this public holiday and was told it will fine just dont drive too fast.

Did my 120K at autosaver and had my absorber changed by them, they supplied the bush stopper of something that is the rubber thingy on the front suspension. Bought my at KYB at Waterloo Centre, Chop Aik Huat, for $360+gst, Autosaver charge $150 for Labour. Please go for 4 wheels alignment after changing.
