Hi people, recently i found out that the undercarriage of my car is making a squeaking sound. It can only be heard when the gear is being engaged in D and the car is in complete stop. The sound is gone when the gear is being shift to N. Heard it when i was at the singapore custom waiting for my passport to be scan. It is high pitch and quite noticeable. Surprisely when i open the bonnet the sound does not seem to come from there. It seem to be coming from right under the dashboard area. Any bros have the same sound? :confused1:
-
Bro, it's the exhaust collar worn out. Changed twice but sound also came back. Due to the soft suspension and low exhaust that's why collar worn out easily. There's 2 collar holding the exhaust, one near engine and one in the middle of the body.
-
Oh. Thanks bro. Where did you change it and the damages done? The sound is kind of irritating and quite loud whenever i am in the enclosed custom compound. The immigration officer will keep look at my car. Malu la. :nonod:

Mine was under warranty so no charges, maybe you can try Autosaver at Defu

i had a similar sound after my last servicing 50k. At first i thought it was one of the belts or bearings giving way. After 2 months, the sound "disappeared" and i couldn't replicate it at the service centre. The mechanic did tell me it could be the exhaust collar. How would this cause a squeaking sound?

Due to the vibration of the exhaust....
Bcos when we engage gear, car will vibrate hence causing the exhaust to vibrate too. If engage neutral, car is at idling so not much vibration

Hi bro, which service center did you went to. I went to TCM@BT and they charge me 90 plus. They told me it does not cover under the warranty, due to wear and tear.
-
Anyone know what is the exhaust collar called in chinese?

I always service my car at UBI. You should bang their table if they want to charge you as this is their design fault

hmmm last 2 days.. i got these 2 problem appearing....
1) i got this Hissing sound whenever i start my aircon + engage D or R gear..
If i set my fear to Neutral + switch on air con>> no hissing sound..

It always hisses whenever i turn on my a/c :D
Not normal meh?

My problem is when vehicle is in D mode and stationary, stepping on the brakes I hear ringing sound from the undercarriage. Will be sending in to TLC to check it out when I am doing my final free servicing of 50K.

Crusty69, if hisses sound occurs whenever you turn on your A/C but the hisses sound gone when you turn off your A/C... just go and ask to change the Alternator Belt. not that expensive. Sure your car quiet like new.

I will bringing it in on 1st Feb to TCM at Loyang but heard from my colleague that technician there not as experience as those at Kg. Ubi...no choice for me thou cos that is the nearest place for me from work...if not have to take leave to do servicing..
Just to clarify mine is not so much a hissing sound but more like a high pitch ringing from the undercarriage.. its not audible when the windows are wind up but I found out only when I wind down my window to reverse..

The last time I told the SA about the hissing sound when I turned on air con they say its due to the gas against the piping..

The Hissing sound is the sound of the Aircon Compressor pumping. I think this is normal as I have had this on all cars I've owned before. It will come on with a whirring sound then once cold, the compressor cutoff will result in a hiss that tapers off.
On the squeaking sound, this caused by the alternator belt (located on the left side) I change the belat my last service and it stopped, but after about 10k km the squeek has returned. You might also hear a loud squeak when you start the engine.
A mechanic once taught me to put a few drops of engine oil on the belt wheel (use dipstick and drop) and it will stop, but this is a temporary solution and not recommended by TCM.
-
i heard a loud squeak when starting the engine too. it is just after you crank and the start of the engine there is a split second of loud squeak?
-
I have that too and my belt is only 15000km. Are you guys on the light weight pulley? I was thinkking it could be the wear on the light weight pulley and the new belt not sitting properly. Is that possible?
-
:confused1:not sure what is a light weight pulley. kinda noob when it comes to car. still young and learning. :x btw my belt is also around 12000km. changed it at my last servicing. do you tink spraying wd40 on the belt will help?
-
The workshop did not tightened the belt coz it's new. They give a bit of slack. But my lightened crank pulley giving a vibrating noise when light throttle. But I have no time to check yet.bro Customgolf> how long have u been using the lightened pulley. I heard some forumer say lightened pulley might cause damage in lOng run. I wonder if it's true
-
Guys, just do a few test below... heard carefully either the squeaking sound occurred when:
1) engine just started?
2) A/C turn on and turn off?
3) car stopped or running?
4) car over the hump?

Light weight pulley has been in the ride for about 4 years, some original pulleys comes with what is known as harmonic dampener which dampens the vibration of the camshaft when the fuel detonates in the combustion chambers. Not too sure about the effects on the long run because I'm not sure if our original pulley comes with the dampener.

You better don't do that to the alternator belt...else if the belt slip out from where it located, your car breakdown on road :D

I think you are referring to Lok Yang, not Loyang .. it is a HUGE difference though the name are almost similar.
I went to Lok Yang TCM Autoclinic, i dont quite like their service there. I think is either their parts are recycle or they did nothing to your problem.
I went twice with similar problem (hissing sound) from the aircon, within 1 week the problem appears again.
totally give up there!

Totally agree, the service standardard at Lok Yang sucks

Send my ride in for servicing and complained to them about the ringing/vibrating sound from undercarriage. Action taken was to tighten exhaust joint thou honestly I don't know if this is really the problem. Can only keep monitoring and listen out if sound still there.
Btw anyone who wants to send in to TCM for additional works better check and make sure they really did it. Cos I requested for leather care after servicing but when I went to collect the car, it was pretty obvious they did not carry out the job. To think that I even paid up. Immediately look for the SA and he called the people in workshop over and they claimed they overlooked this aspect. This occurred in the Lok Yang center.
Incidentally I changed my belting at 40k but each time I start car in the morning, can hear a screeching sound. Seems like they did not tighten the new belt. Complained about this too and finally they did it. Now I just finish my last free servicing and honestly thinking whether I should continue with TCM or look for other workshop cos I heard that over at Toh Tuck there are a couple of them that are staffed by ex TCM mechanics and charges are cheaper.

that was the noise from the drive belt ,not tight enough causing it to slip when crank.
