Title: What causes the rapid acceleration?
Post by: SC_New on January 24, 2011, 03:27:20 PM
I'm using a Latio Sedan (CVT) and have always contended with the slower pickup. However the other day I noticed something strange & by chance (road condition).

If one allows a slight drop in speed before pressing the accelerator the car accelerates very fast. Its actually quite thrilling and am able make quick overtakes which was earlier impossible. I've not engaged overdrive or anything but the high RPM (3.5k) concerns me. Hence I've only doen this a few times.

The rapid acceleration  does not happen if I don't let go the accelerator first. The car also needs to have a speed of 40-50km before doing the (let go-press sequence). As I'm quite gundu at this engine stuff, can anybody adivse what causes the car to accelerate so well?

errmm quite normal for CVT i think,... normally I just step on the acc pedal very quickly ( as compared to gradually stepping during normal driving ) ,...... feels more like dropping gear,... same effect as pressing the "sport " button,.....

Not only CVT.  Same applies to 4AT too.

Hi Guys, thanks for all the help. I've been driving for 3 years and never noticed ... as I said very gundu on engine stuff. Thanks for letting me know this does not hurt the engine.

3500rpm is not high. Unless you redline your engine often, otherwise, there isn't a cause for worry

You are not alone.  Most Latio owners do not know that and always complaint their car is slow.
