Title: Air-con not so cold. Need to bypass heater
Post by: M-code on January 24, 2011, 05:52:48 PM
Hi folks,

I realize my 4AT latio take a long time to cool down especially in noon time. Of cos. Weather is one of the factor.

But as compare to other car makers, I feel my air con is really sucks!

Despite that I changed the cooling coil at 400 plus, it's still not cold.

Hence, I ask the air con mechanic and he say passby the heater will help. Cost is 40 bucks.

Any guru can advise me the pro and cons of doing this, or any other method of making it cold beside changing car.. Hiaz!

Thank u!

Hi there, thank for ur advice. I had my ultramax film anyway.

I have done it with just 40 bucks exclude GST. And this 40 bucks actually solve my problem which lasted for 2 years..

Thank to Mr lee of TOMIKO at ubi! He is great...

Though it bypass the heater, I can play or adjust with the air con opening where cold air comes out, to control the coldness.

No excuse of changing my car Liao...latio GO ON and ON!

Basically it just set to the lowest temp at 18 degrees permanently.

To me colder means faster to cool down.

Yes, even if u set to 26 degrees it will give out air at 18 degrees

So this is what ppl meant of bypass the heater. Just my 2 cents.

Will it stress & shorten the compressor lifespan?

did he do some wiring to by-pass the thermostat?

so if the cabin temperature is too low, can you still use thermostat to adjust the temperature?

In the panel between the engine and you are pipes where water from the radiator will flow to when you increase the temperature so that the air blower will blow out warmer air, this is bypassed, did that when my ride was 3 months old but reverted because my wife don't like it to be too cold.

I've heard that in case of emergency, if your radiator fan dies on you, you can actually turn up the heater in your air con system to cool down your engine like a backup radiattor but you'll be getting all the hot air, no personal experience and hope not to.

if one is to set the temperature to 18 degrees C, does it mean that water will not flow into these pipes?

The procedure to bypass the heater is to block off the water flowing into your firewall, so I believe that that even when the temp is set at 18 degs, there is still be water flowing into the heater pipes at the firewall.
