Title: Serious Help Needed with my latio FC
Post by: spencer on February 17, 2011, 11:19:28 PM
Hi fellow Lations,

really need some help here. My Latio (4AT) just cross 50,000 mark, and my FC is terrible. full tank till brim, fuel light shown today when I only clock 328km. if just based on 35L, with 10L as reserve when light show up, it's 9.3L/KM.

This is extremely bad. I had just bought this car and didn't expect this to happen cos my fren's latio (4AT) can do 14-15kM/L.

I generally do 60% HW/40% urban.

Please help me with it...

what can I do... I did a search but dun find anyone in a similar condition...most slightly better...

maybe can try changing/renewing yr cvt or atf fluid ,... after that yr spark plugs . It helped with my fc before. Then maybe can go  for throttle body clean ( take out throttle body and scrub using oil )

do the basic
enigine oil & filter change,
engine air filter check or change
spark plug check or change
ATF oil change
check tire & pressure (pressure higher will help), replace tyre if necessary
try not to switch aircon to the lowest temp, somewhere u are comfortable with.
mine's at 25 degree
drive at normal speed, do not sprint or accelrate unnecessary
clear yr boot of things u do not need
lose some weight if yr r too heavy...(heehehe...jus kidding)
...more if i think any...
lastly, if still can not, bring to Tan Chong for
checks...maybe filter injector dirty, air & fuel ratio NG...etc
Not necessary to repair at TC, jus check and pay some $
cheers

Have you checked your tire pressure? Having 240kpa for all four wheels.

I'm more of a light-footer. Generally crusing at 2-2.4k rpm...

Mine's on a 16 inch as well...previous owner use cheena tire... what would be the optimum tire pressure anyone?

try to cruise 2K rpm or below..
like what previous bros saids...change to EO to Full Synz, change back to Denso Spark Plug, maintain Tyre Pressure (230 front, 210 rear), clean up unnecessary items from your rear boot (especially those heavy item) and do the throttle body cleaning..

Default tires pressure for latio is 230 front and 210 rear... if you don't want your tires get "pregnant", try to stick with this.

My 2 yrs latio sport 4AT FC also decreasing. Use to get 14-15km/l now only 11+.
Change EO to amsoil, no difference. Probably try the throttle cleaning.

with 40%CT >> u can get 420km with full tank .. minimum ..

like that the others suggest, try throttle cleaning and tire pressure.. these 2 will have big changes to your FC

personally>> i use 260 for front tires and 240 for back..

about the throttle body cleaning...

Do you disconnect the throttle body to clean just the throttle body or using the "spray & rev" method to clean the throttle body, the air manifold and the rest of it.

can share where you did it and your review?

Did my TB cleaning at autoaid.  They acutally dismantle out and clean inside with soemthing that smell like kerosene.

After that they do a consult tuning which is important in case your RPM goes too idle after the cleaning.

What is consult tuning ? Is it same like air/fuel tuning and adjustment ? What the damage ?  Thanks. ;)

something like that.  It is the same as everytime after you do your service in TCM, they also do consult tuning.

There is no extra charge for consult tuning, it is already covered in the TB cleaning.

the Throttle cleaning i did with eagleye647 @ pitstop R, the guy will dismantle everything to wash so its quite thorough one.  then he will do consult tuning to fine tune all the basic settings of ur engines

Last year, he did a re-tune and my idling rpm fall back to 900rpm and the response of the car is much better

can give it a try if u have not done any cleaning before.

Same as autoaid.  I believed Pitstop R and autoaid are side by side.  Maybe they share the same resources in Throttle body cleaning....

i think they are same price based on the posting above.  I did twice at autoaid which cost 50 + 7% GST.

Don't you find the ride very hard if you pump pressure of 260/240?

Did you change your suspension?

Just to check with the bros here who went for throttle body cleaning. After doing it, did your RPM shoot up to 2500 when starting your engine? Mine did and I went to my workshop and my mechanic had to reset my ECU. He said this was a common problem after throttle body cleaning. So would like to check with bros here whether anyone experienced the same issue as mine?

Why reset ECU after TB cleaning ? Thought some bros here mentioned performed consult tuning after cleaning.

I think mine didn't.  :unsure:Coz my RPM became crazy after TB cleaning, as a result my already bad FC became worse  :( :( :(and it only became normal after resetting my ECU...

So after resetting your ECU, your FC became normal as in before cleaning or better ?

It became the same before I did the cleaning. But could feel the car's more responsive...

Traffic jam also will affect on FC. Try to void traffic jam or heavy traffic road ;D
