Hi all,
After I stopped my vehicle (latio sport premium, 06 model) at a sloped traffic junction , the moving off is very very slow. I floor my accelerator but the pick up is still very slow. I'm installed pivot 3 drive and the mode is on SP 7 most of the time but that doesn't help. My FC is also getting from bad to worse. I have changed my spark plugs, changed my air filter, done TB cleaning. Initially the engine response became better. Now it has reverted back to its old self. Not sure if its due to my air con compressor. There's a loud hissing sound coming from the engine bay, probably from the air con compressor when I switch on the air con during engine cold start. Could the compressor affect FC and engine response? Does any bros have any advice to this? Engine lag and bad FC...this is very depressing :weep: :weep: :weep:

i am also facing this issue...mine is Yr05 latio sport.....engine very laggy.....pickup from traffic light is damn slow....2mths back, TCM reset the ECU and it was better for a few days...now it is back to same.....
wondering whether anything got to do with ignition coil or cable?

did you lay your floor carpet too thick that caused the accerator movement.try removing additional carpet and see got different or not.
-
I think might be the carbon accumulate in the piston. Try to go JB and give you ride a good 30mins of high rev to burn the carbon, it will surely help and you car will feel more responsive...

This was wat TCM mechanic said......so now i shift the mat behind and make sure that it does not obstruct the accelerator.....but seems not this cause.......

Did that during drive up to Genting last Nov.....dun feel any difference either......
I also notice that the problem is worst if stuck in traffic jam......car feel no power to move off at all unless floor the accelerator....then even only move at a snail pace...sometimes cars behind also honk honk....
Frightening experience was when stuck at Orchard jam...then went up slope to Taka shopping center.....car move at a snail pace and i got to use L gear to inch my way up....tot that it was going to die on me.....

The easiest way for faster pickup is not to floor the accelarator. You should do simple step on acceralator and
release and press again immediately, the pick up will kick in faster. I did try floor accerelator before but not much help.

Hi,
I do have the hissing sound when i switched on my aircon... I guess it is normal cause my home aircon also produces similar noise. As for the engine lag, i could only think of your spark plug misfiring or CVT transmission fault. When my vehicle is stationary with the gear engaged at "D" or "L" or "R", theres a squeaking sound from under carriage... It dissapears after i engage gears at "N" or "P"...
Must be thinking it could be the characteristics of CVT. But that i'll have to ask TCM. So i hope someone could enlighten me before i go to TCM
I do not have engine lag when moving off from slope or moving up the slope but it gave me some doubts when free wheeling down slope especially at Benjamin Sheares bridge exiting at Rochor exit(any other slope is ok). When free wheeling or in other words, release the pedal fully, the engine goes into engine braking and RPM shows 3000rpm...
I was just wondering if it's the characteristics of CVT transmission. Anyone had this experience before?
PS: I would go to reliable 3rd party workshop and have some diagnostic check on the engine lag. TCM could sometimes hide things and not fully say the full extend of the problem/s. Had such experience before but it was with Motor Image.

if you release accelerator when going down 'steep enough' slope, engine brake will kick in n rpm will show 3000 thereabout

yup tat's rite....normal engine brake....tat is what I was told when I brought up this issue to TCM as well.....

My latio also goes into engine brake when going down Benjamin Sheares Bridge. That's normal I think, one of the safety features for our ride. My former ride Honda Stream also does that when going down the Bridge.
I also would try my best not to go to TC, unless absolutely necessary. It's good to know that the hissing sound is normal...can save few hundred bucks and don't have to change the compressor for the time being...

Ya that's the same thing that happened to my ride. Stuck at jam sometimes the response becomes very lagged. My sis also experienced the same thing when driving up a carpark slope. The car pick up was very very slow. She told me an uncle riding a bicycle can overtake her. The thing is, sometimes its responsive. Sometimes its not. So I don't think it's due to the accelerator pedal stuck by the car mat. Now I'm crossing my fingers and praying that its not due to the CVT gearbox...If not, it's bleeding time for my pocket again...
Any bro got any reliable workshop to recommend to diagnose this prob? (except for TC) Preferably in north side coz I live in Bishan. Pls kindly advise. I would appreciate that very very much.

i always service my car regularly....and change parts even before the recommended intervals eg. CVT fluid change at every 40Kkm...last change of spark plugs was during 100Kkm at TCM....
i also crossing my fingers not due to CVT problem else have to chop hand & leg to repair it....

Maybe throttle body dirty only ?
-
Have you done engine flush & throttle body cleaning? What type or viscosity of engine oil did you use? Have you change or flush your CVT oil before? The above mentioned will help to improve the engine response especially if you are using 0/5W - 30 engine oil instead of 40 or 50... Using E-throttle will increase your fuel consumption. Maybe you can try out our latest Power Mesh which has the similar effect as E-throttle without affecting fuel consumption
-
Looking at it, could be many factors affecting the up-slope acceleration. I saw you installed pivot-3 or something. Could be the problem too.
Saw replies and appreciate the feedback on engine braking. Guess it is a relief to find that it is actually the characteristics of CVT. :yehyeh:
I did some research on CVT. I tried to google for CVT maintenance. Most said to regularly change the fluid(NS-2). Ranging from 40K-80K-120K or 60K-120K intervals.
But i'm actually trying to find out when is the time to change the PUSHBELT? It is the steel belt that connects the two pulleys. So called the final transmission.
You can view the explanation here: http://www.bosch.nl/content/language1/downloads/GS_CVT_Leaflet_En_final.pdf
The cost of the steel belt here: http://www.cvtbelts.com/index.php?cat_id=1&id=10&pgid=4&mode=view_details&rec=0&search=1&skey=CH050&scat=
And the advise on changing the belt here: http://www.cvtbelts.com/index.php?pgid=2
But it does not say when to change the PUSHBELT. :crycry:
I used to ride motorbike Gilera. The transmission is very much similar to nissan's CVT. But Gilera uses kevlar belts and not steel belts thus changing at intervals of 12K-24K-36K. But Nissan does not say when to change the PUSHBELT and we know all things exist has it's wear and tear.
Any info or advise on this matter. Thanks in advance

I also face the same thing..
Mine is a 4AT yr 06 production..
Problem seem to arise after I change the relay which is the recall item.
-
Halo guys,
just for your information, mine 4AT sedan, also crawls like snail after stucked in jams.
Very often after the jam is cleared, the car will speed up very slowly, even if I depress the accelerator fully.
While still flooring the accelerator, I always took a glance at the odo and it crawls up to around 70 km/h.. after tat, rpm shoots up and car accelerates suddenly..
doesn't seems to be a CVT problem only..

Then it could be a inherent problem with Latio? Previously check with TCM and their standard reply "disgnostic test result do not show any abnormality"
-
At TCM, they will always tell you no problem shown..
Previously, I have a problem with my compressor and they also say no problem.
Until one day, my car decided to give up and started blowing all the hot air from engine bay.
When car was sent to them one day after major servicing, they say they are not able to determine such issue.
It more like a suck thumb issue to them but to us, its more of inconvenience..
I told them no point having NPMP where you guys treat me as normal customers sending in for servicing.

I did throttle body cleaning but not engine flush. Will do it for my next servicing. Would that help? I just changed my CVT oil during my last servicing leh. Also changed my spark plugs too. Engine oil i'm using is 5W40.
How does the power mesh work bro?

I just sent my car for servicing at this workshop @ Sin Ming. Told the boss abt the issues in my car. He suggested retuning my ECU for me. He said he can only do that when my engine has totally cool down. After retuning, my car's pick up is very smooth now. Power is also back when stopping at sloped junctions ;D ;D. Strange thing is, i sent my car for retuning of ECU at TCM before but I didn't see such improvement back then  The boss also did some adjustment to the fuel filter coz I told him the fuel meter won't go to full after pumping full tank (he mentioned something about adjusting the needle or something like that). Now, my fuel meter is back to normal I think ;D ;D Will pump another full tank to observe and see. the boss did say that the fuel filter has to be changed, although he suggested changing it after another 20000 - 30000km.

i also did my ECU re-tune at TCM....felt good for first few days after which back to normal.....

Damn... I bought their servicing package. If they give me poor service then the package is rather redundant. Still under warranty but nothing is done to resolve the car issues.
Now i'm thinking hard whether to stay with TCM or not.

did your malfunction light on the instrument panel light up?
how old is your car?
my nov 07 car sounds like your car..
happens 2 time to me already... but when it happens, the malfunction light is lighted up...
i need to put to P the gear level, and restart the engine...
sibei sian, dont know what can be wrong...

Bro, which is the workshop ah? Interested to go down and do the same... similar issues like everyone, slow pickup after stop, sometimes traffic light, sometimes after turning, sometimes cutting lane on express way..sighs.
-
The workshop is at Sin Ming Autocare, #01-08, name of workshop is Kian Teong Auto Centre. Name of the boss is Mike. His no is 98760818. You can say Kok Tong introduced you. He told me that apparently, many Latios face this prob. He said that the ECU will go crazy after either changing of car battery or cleaning of throttle body. I did these two recently so maybe that explains why my car was so sluggish.
-
Just an update. I've been driving two full tanks now and my FC is 12km/l, which is a marked improvement from my previous FC of 9km/l :yehyeh: :yehyeh: Power and pick up is definitely much better than before. Will continue to monitor my FC and responsiveness of the car.

what is the price for re-tune?
-
The boss charged me $80, same price as what TCM charged me. But I think u'd better call and ask before u go down coz the boss told me he charged $120 for those workshops who sent their Latios for him to re-tune.
Okay I have been driving for 5 full tanks and have been monitoring my FC. It is 12km/l +. So I think the FC shd be pretty stable by now. The lagging also no longer appears when stuck in jams. So my hypothesis for my case is that it's the ECU issue, coz I recently changed my battery and clean the throttle body, both of which the workshop boss said could make original settings of the ECU go off.
I also sent my car for re-tuning at TCM before, but the poor FC and lagging reappear after a week or so. I guess they did not re-tune the ECU when the engine has totally cooled. Just my guess only.

Folks.. this is my experience...
my 07 Latio cannot start moving at traffic light....
check it - Gear box problem....
I needed a re-con gear box at 3500.
if I overhaul the gear box - then it will be more and 7 days...
At tan chong - it replace gear box at 13,000 !
this is a big problem...

TCM replace gearbox at only 1300? or 13000???
another bro mentioned going to Khang Auto to overhaul the gearbox.....maybe u can try going there for 2nd opinion....
Nissan Motors should start giving 10yrs warranty on this CVT gearbox in Singapore as what was given in US....
But sigh we dun have consumer protection here.....

Partly due to the ******** COE system...Down here, we only got the "certificate" to drive the car for 10 years. Most people don't. So makes no sense to have warranty for the gearbox. In US, they don't have the ingenious system that we have here. So they'll drive the car for 10 years and above so makes sense to have 10 years warranty for the gearbox.

No lah. Dun think it is due to COE issue.....now we have cars 3-5yrs old with CVT problem......since in S'pore, warranty till 100K km or 3 yrs whichever earlier.....our traffic situation/condition is worst than US cos we have frequent start/stop.....
In my opinion, I think more due to we dun have US type of consumer protection.....NIssan US web states for cars manufactured from 2003-2010 CVT only....i guess Nissan Motors know that there is reliability issue for the CVT manufactured during this period so they cover it in case of more legal suits later on....

haha...if 1300, i also wanna change......
BTW: for my case, I did a throttle body clean follow by 3M throttle clean last wed at AS Defu......so far I dun feel anymore engine lag even at Orchard Rd last sat....pickup from traffic light is good now....will continue to monitor it.....
