Title: Sports mode for Latio sedan
Post by: scoobydoo on November 30, 2011, 09:58:11 AM
got a noob question...

i tried driving my latio sedan in "sports" mode (by activating the small little button on the gear stick) yesterday but the gear ratio seems like fixed and will not change even when i drive up to higher speeds (rpm goes very high). in my toyota's "overdrive" mode, the gear seems to change (but at higher rpms) when higher speeds are achieved.

is that normal for a latio or something is wrong with mine?

TIA

for mine case, if i moving from stationary and press the sports button, doesn't help as the rpm just go very high, machiam like floor accelarator, and we all know doing this for our cvt doesn't help.

normally, i accelerate very fast till a certain speed/rpm( don't ask me how much, really butt feel as this wife being with me for 5 years liao), then i press the sports button, rpm goes high and car does go faster.

anyway, our cvt got gear ratio meh?

hahahaha... that's a good one.
i also dunno whether cvt got gear ratio or not... noob mah

i called the my outside workshop a while ago and mech told me that sports mode won't change ratio, stick to "1 gear" all the way.

hmmm... like dat how to drive under sport mode? engine already screaming like hell with high rpm when nearing 60km/h  :glare:

cvt gear box feels this way... if u want to drive in sport mode.. u got to drive it harder...
the gear box got 6 ratios if yours is a cvt box... the gears changed.. only cannot be felt...
the day u feels the gearbox changing, means the day its is failing it near...
you can read about this nissan cvt box (by google)...
i think nissan cvt got a lock at lower gear (whereas other brands of CVT boxes dont have this lock)...
its too old liao (been with me for 4 years like this)... i cannot really recall what i have read...

Sports mode juz for u to drop 'gear' to overtake, i normally only activate it for that few sec.

Dun think anybody wanna activate it all the way, will you drive with 1st or 2nd gear all the way?

When I drive at 70km/hr and press sport button, RPM ll rise from below 2k to nearly 3k

I think sometime wrong with your sport mode or u r driving too slow

Think of the normal mode as fuel economy focused; basically the CVT tries to keep the RPMs as low as possible if you aren't really pushing hard on the pedal. Whereas for sports mode, the gear ratios are still changing continuously, just that the CVT box does it much later and much gradually so as to keep the RPMs high and provide better response.
