that might be a sign that the compressor is dead. you better arrange to go down to the workshop for a check immediately. dont delay further..

Do you mean usually you can hear the compressor running or only the sound when the the compressor cut in ?

I suggest you get an car aircon mechanic to check the magnetic clutch coil. I just replaced mine just a few days ago. The first workshop told me that the compressor gone and quoted $600 plus for the compressor and another reputed one in woodlands made the same diagnosis and quoted $600 net. I went to another one for a 3rd opinion, the mechanic check and immediately diagnosed that the compressor is ok but the magnetic coil short liao. The total cost I paid for the magnetic coil replacement is about $235.

If you go there or call them to quote for replacement of magnectic coil, do remember to ask them whether they use new or reconditioned part and share here.

I've a feeling it's a reconditioned part they used on my latio. Anyway, my car aircon is still very cold since the replacement but i am just curious..

Hi, ahjie.
Can share your w/s contact? I encounter the same problem as icyboi.
TC ubi quoted me $1500 for compressor and coil change! And they will only cover warranty for 1 yr or 20000km.

Kelvin, the symptoms i encounter is aircon suddenly not cold, only feel the fan. So off the aircon and wait 2-3 mins, turn on and it gets cold again. Sometimes gotta wait longer to restart aircon. I highlighted this problem when i sent my car to tc for servicing. After servicing, they told me topped up ac gas and vaccumed the ac and solved the problem. The ac behaved normal for next two days.

Three days later, problem come back again and i went back to tc. After checking (suspect they din even check the first time), service adviser told me cooling coil leak and compressor jammed. Quoted me $1500 inclusive labor to change both. Highly suspicious about their assessment so i told them i wanna get a second opinion. Before i left, they wanted to charge me $79 for another ac gas top up. Angry, i refused to pay and reasoned with the service advisor. Never solve my problem still wanna charge me extra $$ by pumping gas into a leaking coil!?

Ahjie, thanks for ur pm.

$1500 is really costly, but repair at AD always cost much higher than outside ws. The only different is most ws only give 3 to 6 months warranty for aircon compresssor whereas TCM may give 1 yr or 20000km warranty.

The popular car aircon ws in woodlands quoted me $600 including GST to replace a original compressor. You can go to those auto aircon ws recommended in this forum for a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion.

Hi bro's,

Few months ago i'm also had the same problem of a/c not cold at all especially, during hot weather blow out hot air instead cold air. Went many place to checked and alot of comments from different mechanic's. End up my friends told me to seek Air-con specialists at yew tee area. They diagnosed that my compressor clutch spoilt do a repaired. Magnetic coil leak, replaced a new set. plus top up AC gas. No GST been add. total i spend $440. No bad service.

I paid $235.40 ($220+GST) to replace my faulty magnetic clutch coil including compressor oil, vacuum and recharge gas. But I'm not sure whether they use a brand new or reconditioned set. Perhaps, I'll try to check whether I can see the replaced part clearly from the bonnet on a bright day. Otherwise I'll call to ask them.

I did the repair at a car aircon ws in Ubi. I've sent you a PM.

For replacement of aircon compressor, the cheapest quote I managed to get was from another car aircon ws in woodlands. They quoted $600 net for a brand new original set with 3 mths warranty. Other servicing ws quoted me around $680 for original set with 6 mths warranty & $380 for OEM set with 3 mths warranty.

bro,

Actually all the warranty not really true. We are not the mechanic we don't know what is the actual problem. When the moment spoilt and you send in they will tell you another stories of part spoilt or even more problem that make you must change it.  :confused1:

Ya, that's why I opted for the cheapest repair option instead of replacing the whole compressor. After all, I'm not mechanical savvy so will not really know if the ws want to smoke me.
