Title: Auto Gear Issues

Dear all, thanks in advance for reading my help topic.

Recently there is a lag on my transmission from gears 1-3, gear change is not as smooth (can't describe the problem as well as I wish).Car is slow when picking up especially with full load. Anyone with this issue before?

Thought to bring the car to a workshop to get it diagnose and which workshop do you reccommend?

how old is ur car? CVT or 4AT?

previously i also faced this problem...did a cleanup on the throttle body and all is well again....

How much you spent on the cleaning? can it be DIY?

I used to have this prob too, and I did a lot of things so not really sure which one works.
1) Clean throttle body (ECU may go haywire after that so may need to reset ECU. Resetting it is pretty easy and you can do it yourself)
2) Change timing belt
3) Change CVT oil (can really feel the smooth gear change after that. After reading through a lot of bros' postings here, I've decided to change the CVT oil every 40000 km)
4) Change engine oil (works for a while, depending on which grade of engine oil you using)

So far the lagging has been much improved. But now I got bad FC. My average FC is about 10.5km/l. I'm going to do engine flush and change my engine oil to 5W30 and see if my FC improves.

Hmmn, seems like a workshop diagnosis is the best for me. Things you've done, i not done them for quite some time so shall proceed to have them checked.

I recently asked my wife if petrol prices went up cos been topping up more often nowadays, since you brought it up, think mine's affected as well. Please update on your flushing & oil change results if possible, many thanks! Oh...and also the workshop that you use. Cheers!

For 1, i think it was around $50 if not wrong, did it at autosaver last year so can't really remember. For 2, it was FOC coz previous owner signed on package with TCM and I was able to use it (for 90,000km servicing). For 4, it depends on what type and brand of engine oil you using. I'm planning to get Redline 5W30 and see if my FC improves coz all along I've been using either 0W40 or 5w40. My last servicing was done with TCM and I found that my FC drops so I'm not sure if its due to the engine oil they use (Fastflo synthetic engine oil).

How much was charged for 1, 2 & 4?

hi bro,no.2 is the fan belt that drive all the components,water pump,alternator and the compressor.
