Suddenly my latio (5.5yrs) cant accelerate above 60km/h. Pressing the acceleraor, the rev go up to 4 but the car cant go faster, stuck around 60km/hr. Anyone experience this problem before ? What is the cause ?
-
Any chance tat OD or Sport mode was activated?
-
Checked , the od/sport button is not activated . The engine noise is very loud than normal driving .
-
Have you been travelled or jammed for long hours? Has your battery changed? off engine for 10mins and try again.
-
Sound like valve body got problem. Something to do with gearbox. However, part can be change . No need change gear box. Symptoms.. like cannot change gear in manual car. Stuck in gear two or third.. of course car cannot run.
-
Sending in tomorrow for a check up
-
Please update after check up.. Mine also similar problem.. I clean TB ..clean mass air flow sensor.. And air con idling valve.. Now no more.. Still monitoring..
-
ya mine also .. 6 yrs
Please update!

desleyhan, what is your mileage now when you have this problem?

bro is yours a cvt or 4at?
-

-
I am facing the same issue too, loud engine noise at 80-90km/hr and cannot seem to accelerate. My AT latio is 5 years old.

Can share where you went for repair? Recon gearbox? Not overhaul right? Cause CVT cannot overhaul... my reverse gear engage also jerky.. now monitoring... see need to change anot ...
-
I faced the same problem too.. But after restart the car it seems to be ok but sometimes a bit jerky.. I found out that this incident only happened when there is a traffic jam, you will find the rpm to shoot up suddenly when u try to accelerate. Anyway, do you mind to share more about your repair or replace work? I heard of overhaul cvt gb with warranty but not sure how good is it... Thanks!!

After reading all above post.. I think my past thread might be useful to all.
1. If possible, dun anyhow change CVT GEARBOX. It can be overhaul. Parts can be replaced
2. It is not always a malfunctioned gearbox fault. But the support parts/sub parts tagged along, like valves body or whatever lead to the problem.
Unidentified recon gearbox.. minimal 5 years already, first model till now.Yes, some may say it is a imported recon from Japan..just doubtful.
Get some gearbox workshop expert and not normal workshop opinion. Most workshop will suggest change gearbox because they are not gearbox expert. they can only replace it.
Nissan CVT should last. al least in Yankee's state.
Just my 2¢.

If some of you guys suspect your gearbox problem irregardless AT or CVT, let me know so that I can arrange a free check and diagnose on your car's gearbox with my friend who is specialises in gearboxes overhaul.
You can sms/whatsapp to my mobile with your name, contact, vehicle number and gearbox type and I will arrange the timing for you to go down.
Cheers,
Johnny (+65 9852 4328)

hi bro, any recommendation of workshop that can repair gearboxes for the benefits of bros who might need this service in future?

Erm I did some research on gearbox changing though...
Ellipse quoted 2.8k before gst. There is another company @ Loyang called Jackson Powertrain (you can google it), they quoted me only 2.0k (if you need the contact I think I took the lady's namecard).
Instead of changing the gearbox, I went down to Autobacs@Loyang to change CVT fluid and it seemed to work? :confused1:. The gearbox functioning more smoothly.. there will still be abit of jerking but it is much better suddenly.. still monitoring though...
According to the lady I talked to at Jackson powertrain, she said that CVT cannot be "overhauled". They will just take a recon version and put it in. There is no parts to replace because Nissan does not provide the parts? Yea, I took her words with a pinch of salt though.

Ya funny, if CVT unable to overhaul, so how they take recon, short for re-conditioned gearbox for replacement. :D

Went to kelvin workshop, need to change gearbox...I chose a used one, slightly cheaper .

I know kelvin's price. Have you changed yours? How old is your car?
-
Bro,
Does it come with any warranty? Still wondering should I change it or not...... :confused1:

hi bro, any recommendation of workshop that can repair gearboxes for the benefits of bros who might need this service in future?
Last time, 3 workshop ask me to change gear box. One in west, one in ubi.one in bukit batok. after scanning with OBD.. all confirm + guaranteed chop, gear box must change. my Ride problem is, it stuck at 40-60km/h no matter how I floor the pedal.
I actually OK and prepare to change. The cost of a recon gearbox is 2-3K, with only 2 weeks to 1 month warranty..hard to swallow for me..they themselves claim that gearbox is from Japan, will be in very good condition, yet they cannot offer a longer warrenty period. it just another sale pitch to me.
I repair my ride at kang auto(sin ming). Just a slice of recon box price. no need to change gearbox. however, I don't know due to whatever reason, Kang auto seem default rental of what.. the news actually come out in the newspaper.so I think it is not operating already..
Eillipse auto is a gearbox specialist.. can try. Our sponsor.... Kelvin, I think he should be able help, but his business is picking up. Should be long queue list.Lol.
My view, get the correct person and workshop. Only if everything fail, LL, change gearbox.
-
In my own view, it would be better to repair the problem parts or overhaul rather than replacing an used or 2nd hand gearbox as you never know what is the condition inside the used gearbox. As I just had overhaul my gearbox in my Civic, it is as good as new together with 6 month warranty covered from my friend's gearbox company. Hope that helps!
There are a few of Latio bros getting to me who requested a free check and diagnosis from my friend who is doing gearbox overhaul and I have arranged some of the bros to go directly to him. Pricing around S$2600+ with GST included...

Is your rpm goes up?

Is your rpm goes up?
Yes.. the car seems like no power during start off.. but if u step harder on gas pedal, car tends to vibrate..
And u can hear theres a diff sound coming out from ur exhaust in Neutral gear..

Hi All,
For teh benefit of all, just to update on a chat I have been having with "No Worries". My gearbox finally konked out two weeks ago after becoming really noisy. KO the same day I was supposed to send it to Autoaid :crycry: so ended up having to tow it there.
I just got my Gear Box changed 2.2k+GST. Ellipse quoted me 2.6k before gst to recondition the gearbox with 6 mth warranty.
Kelvin is about the same I think, but I went Autoaid cos it's nearer my place. Eric at Autoaid originally estimate about 2.4k but discount me a bit at the end after he got confirm price on the parts.
-
I took got my GB done with Kelvin at nearly 2.4k in early this year 2013. Recently my buddy (car salesman) laugh at me for getting carrot headed as there is no such thing as Japan recon. There is only recon and at a fraction of the price. I kinda still trust kelvin as I have been with him for years but my buddy suan me till nw. -_-: Is there any truth behind this? Anyway, wat done is done and I will continue to support kelvin.

I recently encountered very bad vibration during drive and stationary where the my car refuses to go beyond 60km/h. My 1st tot was gearbox up lorry as I got a habit of putting the gear in "N" while waiting at traffic light. But after sending to the nearest mech. (Motogarde), was told that ignition coil up lorry. So change spark plugs, ignition coils and battery, total: $1,126. Is this a reasonable price?
