Title: Air con problem
Post by: Oilysticky on January 17, 2015, 11:50:39 PM
hi
Any latio owners encounter when driving the air con suddenly not cold and come out hot air?

This happens when you are in heavy traffic for a long time.

Yes I had this problem before. Only not cool when jam and the sun is hot. I changed the aircon magnetic clutch at tomika Alexandra village ($200). It worked for 6 months then aircon compressor totally not worked. Changed at Kelvin's workshop ($400).

If you always in the jam like going to JB, change the compressor. The heat really can kill the compressor. If you want to try your luck, then can change the clutch only.

Can you describe it more clearly?

If you didn't turn off the aircon before switch off your engine, the blower will blow on once you switch on your car (ON but not ignited engine yet). At this stage, the aircon is not engaged because the engine is not started yet. Maybe the temperature inside your is high so the fan speed is set to high speed.

Could be leaking from cooling coil. Maybe around 400 to fix it.

Went yishun ind park A ws today, topped up gas @ $20.. The sizzling sound also gone..
Same verdict from ws, suspects small leakage on cooling coil, including original parts, ac filter & labor, quoted $350...
Said latio coil very small, preferred to use original else..
2~3 hrs job wo tearing down dashboard as access from bottom..
Cheaper to do in jb?

Btw, how does latio cooling coil looks like? :confused1:

My Latio 4AT Air Con required Gas Top Up after every 4 weeks of driving, since Dec 2014.
From June 2105 onwards, need to top up gas every 2-3 weeks.  Need to pay Mechanic $20-$30 for every gas top up.

Once my Mechanic saw me coming back for gas top up within a month, he suspect Latio Cooling Coil is leaking out gas slowly and may require > S$400 to replace (excluding labour).
As my car is approaching the scrap date in Mar 2016, No point in paying so much money to replace the Cooling Coil.
Also not wanting to pay $20 for every Gas top up in 2-3 weeks frequency, I bought a R134A refrigerant tank (S$110) as well as relevant Low valve R134A connectors with Gauge.
Now I do my own DIY Gas Top Up once my air-con starts to blow out less cold air.
Don't consider this DIY a good investment, but more like $$ damage limitation :(. Until my car is scrapped :crycry:.

My symptom may not be the same as yours. But some info sharing:
- Air Con not as cold as it used to be. After half an hour drive, you are better off winding down the windows.
- Measured Pressure on the "L"ow pressure Valve, with air con on (and high fan speed), only got 20-25psi.
- Pump in R134A until "L" pressure reads 40 psi.

Seem like yours is a big leak, I top up every 6 months.

Hi Bro, you are not alone, I also have the same air-con problem despite replacing the coil 2yrs back. Only on rainy days or night the air-con function normally. In the hot & sunny day, it will blow out hot air. I always have to turn off the A/C button for a while and turn on after a min or so, than the air-con will blow some cool air. But this steps have to repeat several times if I drive long dist.

Lately, when I engaged my "R" gear, the car will take up to 3 sec. to respond and gave a jerking (gear engaging jerk) to start the reverse. Any bro experience this issue? Is it a sign of gearbox failure?

Anyway my list go (suspension sink a bit on the right etc...) on for my ageing Latio Sport which serve me well over 9yrs 9mths (only 150,000km).

Just to add on my encountered regarding this aircon issue.

My aircon recently not cold anymore so today decided to go Defu Lane for top up, the mechanic told me my aircon gas is full, so propose me to do a aircon flush which cost me $120. He told me compressor has a lubricant as well which is like plain water color, what mine is already milky slimy green in color. So he ask me to monitor for the next few day to see if the aircon perform well else it would be most probably my fan coil need replacement.

My Latio Aircond all of sudden blowing hot air.
Went to Kelvin's place to check, turns out to be magnetic coil issue. Got it replaced, and is now a happy car user all over again.

I am always skeptical when it comes to auto workshop, but Kelvin is really is the guy that will give you confidence to go ahead with the repair.
Very knowledgeable (fast trouble shooting), skillful (when changing parts), price reasonable and most importantly HONEST.

Air cond blowing hot air could be cause by several reason, go and let Kelvin (ERA Auto) do a check up, you will not regret it.

Thank you Kelvin !

hi bros, sorry to revisit this thread.

my latio is having sizzing sound at interval timing(last a few secs) when aircon is switched on; aircon is cool though and no warm air blown out. The sound is gone when aircon is switched off.
does it need gas top up? or require cooling coil change?

I think the sizzling sound is normal when the air on compressor cuts in at regular intervals and release aircon gas. I have this sound for as long as I drive my latio coming 8 years. If you hear sizzling sound continuously, then it's not normal. For my case is aircon gas gone, I top up gas and it lasted abt 4 months before needing another top up probably coil leak... But not sure if I will repair coz I could be scrapping my car soon. Unless iam renewing Coe...

Thanks Inspiring bro for the information. But i remb when latio was new there isn't any sizzing sound. Thus was worried if it is aircon gas leakage/cooling coil spoil or something else major.  :crying:

I think the sizzling sound is normal when the aircon gas is released. But the sound should only be a couple of seconds and then disappear. Then come back again when compressor cuts in and gas release again. I recently just topped up gas again. The last round lasted 4 months. I see this time how long it will last. Probably shorter. Coz I believe the leak will only get worse.

I also have this sizzling sound for a few months. I have changed cooling coil and compressor 1 year ago. So hoping it is normal. Will ask workshop to check if any leaking during next servicing.
