I am also thinking whether to renew COE. Left 1 year.

Left one year still can wait.
My suggestion is wait till CNY is over then make the decision.

I'm also thinking of renewing COE. I've had this car since new. Its the only car I've kept so long. Partly cos COE so high. When I bought it, it was only $53.5k. Its a great car to drive and except for a gearbox change and A.c. compressor fail once. I've never had any other big problems with it aside from usual wear and tear.

why did u change ur gearbox? how much did it cost?

i have renewed my coe last May for 5yrs...now gearbox abit problem in engaging reverse gear...delay of 2s before engage

Gear box had to change cos it KO. Had a whining sound for a long time then one day finally cannot engage. Had it changed for about $2.4k with a recon box at Auto Aid. On hindsight I think it was using the sport mode sometimes as engine brake that might have caused the problem.

cyberkid, can share your mileage when ur gearbox KO? is your whining sound continuous or only for short interval? Sports mode u meant Overdrive mode? Is yours CVT gearbox?

my latio has sizzing sound and it sounds like its from aircon or aircon compressor and when i switched off it's alright. anyone experienced similar issue?

Hi, I have similar issues with the hissing sound. I have checked with my workshop and confirmed it is due to the compressor.. Gearbox issues will surface as time lag after the gear is engaged. Mine is just like what was highlighted earlier. Reverse gear only engaged after 2-3s after gear is changed.. Problem will become worse as times goes by and the time lag will become longer and til a point it cannot be engaged. Then I will have to look for kelvin for a overhaul(replacement of worn out parts in the gearbox).

Get the gear box fixed and your car will feel like new again.

Aiyo...

My Latio gb 1 time I replace.. suey lorh.. Exactly after the warranty expired from Nissan.. the next month I kena problem.

Bloody Nissan say no parts and must wait for 3 months..Some more Nissan say the cost of REPLACING the entire GB was 24K.  SIOW!!

Finally I went to my old technician and he he repaired for me at 5K.  REALLY MAJOR ISSUE lorh.
The entire GB konk off.. needed to be replace but  my tech say he have it fully serviced better.

Then after that after another 3 years got another GB problem.. Lucky this time only about 50 plus.. not so bad lah.

And again last month in August the GB again gave up.  Car cannot move at all.RPM very high and so noise and car go only at 10KMH
HAH HAH HAH

But small thing and tech charged me only $250.  Now ar bak to normal self.

But LATIO CAR -->  REAR PASSENGER HAVE HUGE SPACE and boot also big.  This is why I hold to it.

My car bought in 2008 and another 2 more years left.  Now thinking if COE can go down, then either buy Toyota Sienta or
extend for another 5-10 years... depending on COE price.

But whatever it is lah, LATIO.. no car can compare in comfort.

My family tested many cars before we bought this Latio.  Reas seating.. NO CAR CAN COMPARE.

Hope this helps.

I am thinking to renew mine too, but the cvt gearbox is the worrisome part. Other than this I really like this car a lot. Very comfortable in the inside and cabin spaces is generous. Keyless entry.

CVT problem will surface and take a few months to worsen so you should be able to plan the repair in advance. The cost is much lower than many years ago. Now many workshops know how to service CVT as it becomes popular recently. Overhaul of gearbox is less than 2k.

Another vote for Latio! Its my first car and everything is great.. except for the gearbox issue.. which unluckily happened to mine. Reverse cannot engaged, decided to scrap it when COE expires in November.

But now the difficulty is... finding a car to replace it. For its category and price range.. difficulty to find a match.

I am looking at renewing my dec 07 latio too. But have a few things to do up. Mainly engine mounting, sprk plugs and brake pads.

Any idea the cost i shd be looking at? Not sure if its worth doing it up and renewing.

Any inputs would greatly help! Thanks!

No need to censor the workshop name if you have experienced good service from them.

BTW this forum is not sponsored by any workshop.

I just bought a 2007 Latio 5DR. So far i am impressed by the rear passenger space. I drive with the seat fully retracted back. Even with that the space at the back is good.

Today is just the 2nd day driving. I pray it will remain good.

I just bought my second latio, from 07 sedan to a 08 sports premium. Chose latio back as the space and headroom is still one of the best plus the better OMV out there. Too bad few weeks of ownership have to change starter motor and faulty throttlebody.

Latio is a great car. I just scrapped my 10yr old, and changed to a Sylphy. With the new Pulsar launched, maybe there will be a revival.
