Title: noise from CVT gearbox,
Post by: cj9404 on August 11, 2016, 10:02:17 AM
My 2008 latio premium model started to have noise especially under lower gear, drived to my normal workshop, the machanician told me the noise is from gearbox, but not worth the whole gear box as my car only left 2 years, he suggested to change gearbox oil first.

the mechanician said the gearbox will not die so soon, but want to ask if anyone here can tell me with this symptom, how long my latio can last for? should I start to shop for new car?  :crycry: :crycry:

thanks in advance.

The noise hears like from fan, so at first I thought it is from aircon, but even i switch off aircon, it is still there.

Changed gearbox oil during last weekend, have some improvement, but noise are still there.  Thinking of find another mechanician for a second opinion, anyone can recommend a reputable workshop specialize in nissan car? saw someone mention autoaid in another post, but it quite far from my place. any recommendation in north?

Ok I have came back the workshop and was advised the CVT gearbox needs rebuild. No point to change CVT fluid as the noise is from the bearing. Cost more than $1k.

So in the end you didn't fix anything?

Went to YS (Technic Motorcare). Planing to change at next servicing. It is 3 days job as I was told.

I thought I can drive till next servicing but unfortunately it was broke down on Saturday and have to call tow trunk. Now it is at workshop for repair. It was extreme loud on Saturday morning and even had jerk when reversing.

The sound was so loud that pedestrians looked at my car when moving off.

Didn't expect it from bad to worse so fast...

Noise started to appear about 3 months ago.

that's really unlucky. did it break down while you are driving? Now what I'm afraid is, gearbox stop working while driving, which cause safety issue.

at least, my noise is still not that bad, and changing gear is still smooth.

Yes I was driving before broke down.

Please standby tow truck if you have no immediate plan to repair.

My gear change was smooth on Friday and things went bad quickly on Saturday.

Took back my car on Wednesday after work. The noise is gone and picking up speed faster than before. The whole car is so quiet and the drive is so smooth just like new.

I got my GB serviced at AMK Autopoint.  CH motors on the 5th floor.  Tech is Ah Huat.

Nice guy and gives you ideas on how to save cost and what you can expect as well.

My last time GB gave up on me, I ended up paying 500+ whereas Nissan THE BLOOD SUCKERS.. were charging me about 5K only for servicing.
If replace engine, they say cost me about 25K (KNNCB).

Have lot faith with TCM and thank God I have found other technicians and work shops to fall back on.

Cheers.

No replacement of parts.  Entire GB was dismantled and serviced and overhauled fully.

What I understand is the CVT unit was replaced only.  Entire thing was fully serviced and overhauled.
