do u all think it sux?
i dun like it!
1 more thing, the sport mode, if always play will spoil tranny ? haa
-
erm... wats wrong with ur brakes? :confused1:
anyway... just wondering is this your first car? if not, what car u drove previously?
for the sports mode (premium & sport), its same as O/D (4AT)... it'll just burn more petrol.
-
yeah our brakes is not comparable to altis or other cars tat have 4 disc brakes. Tats for sure! But for me..so far so good  . One thing i learn for sure is always to break early... :bleh: :bleh:
-
actually... if one had drove previously, one may be 'affected' by his/her previous drive experience. It takes a bit of time to get use to Latio ba. :bleh:
Anyway, for Singapore's road... 2 disc & 2 drum brakes are good enough le lah. Even if its 4disc brakes, its always wise to brake early... :w00t:
-
I find it a liitle difficult to brake too. :crying:
-
My first car had 4 disk brake and my 2nd is a disk/drum type. I don't find much diff between them, maybe I dun drive that fast perhaps.
My colleague says that you can retrofit disk brakes to the rear wheels for $1k+. Anyone done it yet?
-
Retrofit disk brake....... Frenz try it on a Subaru
Guess wat, A "chong" WRX and an untolerate sound when doin reversing .. :devil2:
-
do u all think it sux?
does not stop in time? change a bigger rubber.......
-
i drive b4 lancer, merc e & s, mazda 323, celica. latio got the worst brake. i really have to break v early, and i alway use the S mode as engine brake haiz..

was flipping some car mag and came across something called brake booster? Any1 know whats that and if that will help?
Thks :)

I guess the brake rotor or the disc is kinda small in our latio ( dia. small)
Get oversize disc ba.. definitely give u good braking  but ex and many works!
anyone has done it? how much?

Ya, our Latio front brake is really small coupled with drum brake at the back....sigh....
Any lobang in upgrading the rear drum to disc brake ? Will this void the warranty ?

more dirty leh... i also find it that must step harder and full to have a complete stop... just get use to it... understand yr ride... make yr ride and u combine as one... "che ren He Yi" heee.....
-
haha... must get use to the car... then make the car get use to ur style also... Dont let previous experience affect your Latio experience... :devil2:

Quite happy with the brakes.
I have driven Focus, Camry, Jeep Cherokee (4L with front disc, rear drums also), Toyota Corolla, Nissan Pulsar (Sunny here).
The brakes are not the most powerful I have tried which is a good thing. Forces you to form the habit of stopping early. My previous experiences is that cars with good brakes tend to end up skidding when the brakes bite (yes, even for cars with ABS).
So far for the Latio, I learned to brake early but for a few times, I applied full brakes and the car had no problems stopping on the dot.
There is one very important thing we have to remember.
Braking performance is not as simple as the brakes itself. You need tires that can retain the grip under those harsh braking, you need your suspension tuned to obtain the right response so that your tail don't skid and end up spinning, you will also have to change the ABS program so that it can cope with the upgraded brakes. So, upgrading our brakes may seem simple but if not done right, it will cause more harm than good when you really need it.
If speed and performance is an important issue, then drive a wrx. But how many wrx have we seen lately wrapped around trees?
Not saying you should not do it but saying that if you want to do it, make sure you know what you are doing.
-
:lahlahlah:  :first: well done... haha

i totally agree with u as well bro. not many pple understand the suspension and tires compliment the brakes as well.
and as for the latio brake performance, i would agree with both sides. it seems that for initial braking, the bite is not quite there. but i think if im not wrong, braking force is exponential and not linear for our brakes.

simi more dirty???
IMHO.... even if change to high temp brake pad.... also same thingy.....
the tyre is the one tat u rely on to stop in time....traction, etc etc....
my last ride.... brake sucks....
Change to performance brake pad....no impact
Change brake hose.........slight impact....
Change rubber aka tyre....

Frankly speaking, if TC wants to play hard ball wif u, even u upgrade yr stock rims to a bigger rims. They can void yr warranty if there is anything wrong with yr suspension or brake etc... ;)

Correct, you are right bro~ if they want, they can void ur warranty once you changed anythings...
but, mostly they closed 1 eye ba, unless major mod.. else many ppl will go bang table liao... included myself... hahahaha~~

actually, thats what my SE told me cos the manual doesnt say anything abt upsizing of rims. so if got drive shaft problem, pray hard. :D

Actually this setting is better for most (including inexperienced) drivers. This is because sometimes when we panic, we tend to over depress the brake. In situations like this, better to give a bit more slack initially than to lock the wheels straight away and cause a spin or skid. Like I said, we are not trained race car drivers.
WRX drivers are still only drivers of an excellent car. There is only so much a car can do. The rest still depends on the driver.
Mass outing to a defensive driving course anyone? I heard AAS organises them.
-
i think a defensive driving course will be a good idea. any chance organising one for our club? :D

Thought the ABS brake with brake assist suppose to prevent skidding or spinning our car provided the road condition is good and dry? plus a non-worn out tyre? I dun think it will skid and spin if the road is dry and the tyre is not worn out.

Wah Jon, that's a good idea! You On, I ON!!!

Even ABS has its limits. I am particularly unimpressed with the ABS on the previous gen of camry and australian Pulsars.
I have not seen a convincing demo of ABS on a consumer car at high speeds yet.

I admit myself I did not personally experienced it although experienced at a lower speed of 50-60km/hr before. No skid.. was a toyota.
I was also told by a customer with ABS brake and brake assist with high speed incident 2 years ago.
Just a brief account.
Was raining. He was travelling approx. 80 km/h on SLE when a motorcyclist buan.
The rider was abt 10 - 20 mtr ahead of him before he buan and he managed to E-brake without skidding and was inches before hitting the injured man lying on the road. His account was that the car dun lock dead immediately the tyre and he could felt the the car was balancing by letting the force released bit by bit before a complete stop. so from the distant he braked to the final distant is approx abt 1 mtr apart or lesser. That's ABS he said.
Why I mentioned bcos he gave me a great impression by keep praising his ABS so on and so on.... non-stop cos he was glad he did not kill the guy. forgot his ride.

can can, interest as per normal lor kekek

Hi Bro
Not much info mention from the www.nscs.org.sg . But from what I know is that they'll teach you how to control and handle your car in the event it skid, blah blah blah....etc
By the end of the course, who knows, you might know how to do the stunt like Ah Seng(180 degree turn) and also perform "Singapore Drift" !!! :D
-
Wah!!!! SO hot ah!!!!! I tried calling NSCS but the guy only comes in on Thurs. Was going to post a poll with more details after I get in touch with him but looks like ppl more excited than that already!!!
Hold your horses. Let me call tom. then let you know more like if got group discounts, date, agenda, whether can use own car (not sure if good idea). :yehyeh:

360? no one try b4. but it is possible with a downshift of gear, and pedal to the metal while pressing on ur footbrake hard n fast simultaneously when u swing ur steering wheel.
180? definitely possible.
footbrake's main setback is that it autolocks. unlike handbrakes, u can press onto the button so that it doesnt lock.

Wah sia! Bro, it seems like you already know this technic. Care to show me how to do it? :D
-
with a handbrake, can do 360. saw that before. i never dare to try...
-
drift with latio............. :yehyeh:
-
i accidentally slid my latio on a few occasions especially on wet roads, and the feeling of sliding (4 tires totally give way) is quite an interesting feeling. it isnt very fast, but ur body is moving in a different direction from what you are expecting and what ur eyes perceive.
the noise from the tires rubbing off the road will cause a rumblin noise
