Hi all,
Any recommended syn oil for 4AT that gives good FC based on your experience? I am hitting 10K soon. So far my FC at most is 11 kml (50% highway; 250 kpa for front tyres, 230 for rear tyres; mostly below 250k rpm). Thanks....
-
hmm, thats weird. my Latio tachometer never reach 250k.. T.T

I asked the guy who is selling Amsoil, its ok tho. Silent and response is fast, but better to go for 30w if you want. Im still trying out on this 20w before I switch to 30w. :D

Just did my 1000km servicing today. Realise that TCM offer Shogun syn oil. Not sure how much you need to top-up.

What is your FC and your driving pattern (70% expressway?)? I think u still use mineral oil rite?

I thought TCM always use Fastlo oil? They usually give mineral oil until 10k service. Did you ask for amsoil? They always gave me fastlo
-
sorry me bad..shld be Fastflo for 5K service...so it is mineral ?
-

My FC is around 12.7km/l. Think 60% highway and 40% normal road. Yup..still using mineral.

was told that Mobil1 Gold is good as well...but ex....

just used amsoil for my 10k servicing.. personally i think the engine is smoother than before.
also when you accelerate like until 3krpm, you can feel the stress on the engine not as jia lat as what it used to be.
quite comfortable with the oil :)
ps i have never used other oil yet but i will try a different oil during my 30k servicing

just use any fairy good 5w40 oil or 0w30 and change them every 8k or 10k...u will have the same feeling...

I think even castrol 0w40 (>$100) also lose to amsoil 5w30. The engine is confirm more quieter, pickup smoother and faster. Although I have not tried mobile1, but I guess amsoil still win.
-
Hi all, wow my first post in this forum. I've just gone thru my 3rd (10k) servicing. Bought Mobil Synt S 5w40 from Taiwan (NT185 only!!). So far, my FC with mineral oil has been pretty good about 14.5 and currently it's around 15km. Well I do drive 60-70% on e highway...
Nonetheless, I'm tempted to try Amsoil 5W30. Read the other threads about it and seems very good, but is it recommended to drop from a 5W40 to a 30? Thicker to thinner lube doesn't sound right to me.
-
Huh
Then i shld try to use Amsoil already, i used Mobil fully synthetic oil last mth for my 17k servicing @ Msia (KL).
Look like Amsoil is a better choice leh!??

No harm buying that and try. :)

Oh, snd like Amsoil is much better than Mobil engine oil leh!!!! how?
i just chg, and used for 2k only, so how? change n try Amsoil now or wait till i use it for 10k?
-
I think ppl change to Amsoil is because of cheap and good. Of cos Mobile is much superior. LOL..
Just carry using until the day you go servicing lor. E.O. only, nvm la. Just endure lo. Save the $ for petrol better. I also wanna change to 30 but see no reason why koz just service only. :bleh:

oh, what is E.O?
Really bo? Mobil is so superior meh? I can feel the different on the first few days after I chg the engine oil (fully syn), but few wks later, i don't feel the different leh, not very superb power ... !!! Haiz!
Now, most imptly is to save fuel consumption!!! If by chging to a btr engine oil can help us to save fuel, do it man! Let me know if any btr ways to save fuel!!
Thanks.
-
*bish* E.O. = Engine Oil lor. I lazy to type full :bleh:
I stick to Amsoil, cheap and good. FC not as bad, but I think I will gof or w30 then w20. Heh..
*Just pumped V-Power ytd and hoping to clock good FC tho because previously is 14.6l/km. Hoping V-Power will be better, if it turn worse, no surprise because some of the guys here gotten bad FC due to V-Power. Shall see mine. :devil2:

No ppl here tried redline oil before? Just bought some 10W30 from MX and going to try on my 20K service.
Hope it is better. I am using Amsoil 5w30 now. Quite happy with it, but I thought it can be better with redline.

Have. Daily SGP usage no problem, but going up North may need slightly thicker viscosity EO. :D

Let me make it simple, now on 20w/50 engine oil. FC very very bad and not much power.
Wednesday want to change to 5w/40 engine oil. OK understand now?
Cause 20w/50 is too thick already for the engine to move, so car now no power. When your car no power step more Acc mean more petrol gone.
Ok catch any ball already?

I almost wanted to do the same as you last week, but mechanic warned me against using 20w as its not suitable for our current ride. Think its an $$ lesson learnt for you. . .

Oh. so W50 , W=weight 50 , the bigger the number the thicker the Oil!!!
new car need thinner oil, i.e. low W number...
must rmemeber, must remember...................................
the "20" leh? for low temp i remember someone said it.
what if our new car we use 0/#? got such?
-
Hey guys, my FC dropped to about 13.1 and 13.6 clicks per litre as compared to 15.2 on my second tank. Hmm I guess 5w40 is too thick already. I was being light footed some more. Now I'm being more heavy footed and true to what the observation says, maintaining revs of 2500 to 3000 is more fuel saving. Altho I probably only maintain around 2200 max or i'll be speeding waaaay too much.
Definitely gonna drop to a 30 rated E.O.

If you change from mineral oil straight to 5W40, definitely your engine and ECU need time to adjust.

Yes the front nos represent the temp. But is not applicable for our car in singapore weather. That is meant for euro country. So there is no concern.

Same. My FC also dropped from 11 km/l to 9-10km/l after changing from mineral oil to Amsoil 5w30. I noticed the petrol also play apart. After I changed from Caltex 95 to SPC 95, the FC increased a bit to 10+km/l. Still monitoring now... anyone with similar experience?

Not from me....I also change from mineral to Amsoil 3w50 during the 10K service, still can get at least 12km-13km/l
What is your travelling pattern? I am 60% HW and 40% City with a strong right foot. 1st gear always hit 3k. :D
Plan to change to redline 10w30 in the next service. Will compare between amsoil.

that's cool.... i never reach 12km/l b4 :crycry: mine is 40% HW, 60% city. I moderate driver and always hit ard 2krpm
I asked TCM and they even use thicker synthetic oil (FastLo 5W40). Do I need to tune the engine when changing from mineral to synthetic oil? What's the recommended rpm? They set mine at 700rpm during idle

W is for winter.. ie places with freezing temperature.. but for Spore dun bother abt the the front number just look at the second number. rule of thumb smaller number equal thinner oil = better Fc coz lesser resistance but lesser engine protection
-
I changed from mineral to 5W-30 during the 10K servicing. Now reaching 20K, FC remains unchanged. :confused1:
I am going to ask the SE during the next servicing.
-
Sup bros, I have just filled me tank again. 5th tankful for 5w40 E.O. FC is about 13.9 clicks a litre. Getting better ;D. And I was being heavy footed most of the way altho I am 60%highway,40%city this time around. Might wanna check your tyre pressures too, a fellow Latio owner (CVT) is using the same e.o, and we are neck and neck in our FC altho I am 4AT. Will continue to update. I still think 5w40 is too thick... Kinda takes a long time if 5 tanks isn't enough to run in the oil no? Not to mention my second tank ran at 15km/l. Cheers!
