Hi pple, newbie here...
My dad got a Latio premium for me to travel to sch since I live very far away frm it.
Apparently, he got a test drive unit tt already clocked mileage of 1500+ but got a discount of $3K + $1K (YOM 2007 stock) (Total price is 56k).
Got free tuff-coat (dunno what is tt) & body kit.
Alreadying collecting the car this coming week but it's my first car so I cant help but ask: Is it a good deal?
Anyway, he gave me a budget 2k to "upgrade" anything "bad" about the latio tt I read in the forums. I really know nuts about cars and after reading ard the forums, abit blur liao. I'll but changing the tires bt can any1 can advise what else will be "good to change"?
* Just got my license 6mths ago and really no nuts abt cars...paiseh if the questions sound brainless....

First of all...Welcome to the Latio club.
with 2K, change yr rim & tyres ( 16" at least ), do up a entry level of sound system. Should have some spare to do grounding, volt stab etc etc
-
I would recommend to assemble strut bar to improve handling first. :D
-
Ghost is right, change tires first coz stock tires toyo J50 not really good. Especially ppl like to brake hard during test drive to test out the brakes. So not sure of your tires condition now.
Since you newbie, maybe can get a garmin gps around 2~300++, so you always know where u are and where to go ;D
Then you can consider change the horn, coz latio horn is not powerful and some may ignore
If your car comes with solar film, then good. If dun have then can consider, reduce the heat when driving or parked under hot sun
Since yours is test drive unit, better get a shampoo to thoroughly clean your car of bacteria and germs that maybe accumulated after those test drives
For spark bridge, VS, fierce front grille, headlight, please consult latioboy and the rest mod kings :devil2:
-
Pls recommend some useful and constructive upgrade for our fellow new driver.
Hi enfernoe,
Our current stock Toyo tire is good enough for your daily commute to and fro, unless you have extra which I do agreed for better grip and comfort rather than performance.
Can skip horn, VS and other aesthetic mod as you are a student plus a new driver. Concentrate on the road and get used to your car first.
As for the good deal, since you already bought, no point enquiring as it will make you either feel better or otherwise. Just enjoy your ride.

Then Jazz sis, his 2k budget can use for what? :confused1:
Ha ha ha, I am a bro lah, used to own a Jazz before switching to Latio.
I reckon TS mentioned "he" gave him $2K for upgrade is his dad. Either he can choose to save up for his study or upgrade if necessary, that is why his purpose to come in here to ask for advise. If he must spend all his $2K in upgrade, then I rest my case cos definitely not enough and furthermore we do not know his preference and priorities. :D
-
Jazz is right...Strut Bar...it does makes the diff.
-
Sorry, always assume that Jazz is sis now know is bro :D
I'm considering front strut bar, really good? where to find a good and light front strut bar?
What's the damage like?

Look for erev aka Edward. Strut bars really do improved handling.
Initially I am weary of fixing up strut bar because of the additional weight incurred, but to my surprise, it actuall improved my FC. Maybe more confident in cornering I assume. :D
-
Wow, I
-
since this is your 1st ride and you are not fimiliar with the car & less road driving exprience, enjoy your ride 1st, fimiliar with it, get more handling exprience, dun think of any mod or upgrade yet. Dont even kanna poison by us, :devil2: save you $$ for high petrol price
-
Then Jazz sis, his 2k budget can use for what? :confused1:
Dun spend first, keep this 2k budget for petrol. Enjoy and drive the car for a while, if found out there is a need to upgrade, then only use the budget to upgrade. If feel comfortable with everything, then can save the 2k.
-
bro, save the money for your dad lah, when u know more about your car, then decide what to do, if u join in the monthly meetup, sure got bros/sis to poison u...haha ;D
-
Jazz is right...Strut Bar...it does makes the diff.
You fixed up your front strut already I presume. Did yours improve FC too? Just curious. :D
-
even with 16" rims, strut bar, DS3 bodykit, 12" subwoofer behind the boot all these items add up to be another extra 60-70kg (like carryin an extra passenger everytime) i can still manage to clocked 15km/l
Travellin at average 100km/h (80% highway)
So i tink FC is not much of an issue for latio
-
buy curtains :yehyeh: Very impt u know :yehyeh:..
but i myself dont have. ;D

My advise also is to keep with the original stock condition, dont hv to rush to upgrade or change anything yet.. "feel" the car 1st (drives for few mths at least), then when u change, u know the difference.. of cos stock condition not tt bad la, :) dont get poison easily :) .. learn the basic knowledges fr our forum here.. enjoy ur ride..

One more thing to add, since u are driving a Premium - Enjoy the CVT...it smooth...

Buy curtain? Hanky panky inside Latio? Better don't, our suspension so soft, slight movement the car will rock. :glare:

Do not spend on stuff you do not know much yet, take your time to study well first. But as for an advise, change the tyre will be more then enuff. There will be more to change in future slowly, need not to rush it.
Apart from the rest had said, take ur times to install those if you think you need it.
:yehyeh:
-
the only thing i did was to... buy soft toys.. and up my tyre pressure only.
Think i pumped too much..Lol til now never do anything. But its okay. I'm a slow driver, no problem de.
Stock is good enough for me. 4AT here
-

Ahem .... backseat accident? :devil2:
-
I find the stock Toyo tyres fit their purpose. There is no need to change them, unless you intend to drive like Michael Schumacher.
I think it is better to save up the $2000 your dad gave you for a rainy day.

Agree with you bro...installed my front strut bar from Erev Edward, ride is more stable...now still thinking if should install anti-roll & lower strut.... ;)

Agree with you too bro...that's what I did for my 1st year upon getting my ride too...after learning more abt Latio's & discussing from the forum, then slowly change stuff that are relevant & necessary...
Hi Enfernoe, welcome too TLC! Personally think stock for our ride is more than enough to cover daily usage...enjoy the quiet & comfy ride!

So with all the advice, what have you done after almost 1 month?

You can install the ARB, the lower body strut not much impact as per reviews from fellow drivers. I also feel the same. :D
