must use distilled water (battery water)
tap water will damage the battery = need to spend $$$$$ to change battery when it konks out prematurely

Saw some said our battery last 1-2 yrs only?

My old ride has a maintain-free battery and i didnt change for 3++ yrs :P

batteries normally can last about 2 years

however, in new cars, it may depend on your luck as you don't know how old is the "normal" battery when it is installed in the car at the factory

maintenance-free batteries just mean that you don't need to top-up battery water

just make sure you check the indicator regularly

Hmm i personally find that the traditional "water" type batter lasts longer for our hot humid climate. i think the sealed maintenance free batteries are made more for cold climate.

I still prefer dry cell battery, hassle free, no need to worry about low level battery water.  :D

If I recall correctly, if battery dies within the first year, you can get free replacement from TC. So maybe you should pray it will die soon ...

hi Silver,

distilled water (battery water)?

Bro, distilled water (Transparent) is for the battery coolant (Coloured, green being the most common) is for the radiator, of course you can use distilled water in your radiator but no improvement to performance with a higher price but if you put coolant into your battery, the battery sure up lorry.

Hi Golf,

Oh, that i know if we put coolant in the battery, sure go up lorry one.

What i am trying to say is that, for coolant-to-mix-with-water and the-water-we-put-in-Radiator, is that the distilled water that you guys mentioned in the other Coolant thread? Meaning, for coolant & radiator's water, it's advisable to pour in distilled water rather than water from the normal water tap? Pls correct me if i am wrong. I am confused with the water to use for Radiator & Coolant Reservior.

Regards.

generally, normal tap water us used to dilute the coolant, can't remember what's the ratio. Using distilled water will not help in cooling down the engine faster.

oh.
i see.

but, there are ppl saying that, not advisable to use normal tap water because of rusting or sthing? karat?
so, ok to use tap water? or must use distilled water for radiator and coolant reservior?

actually distilled water is used to top-up battery and so it is usually called battery water

however, in other thread, some prefer to use distilled water to also top up the radiator in the belief that it will not cause rusting
fyi, I had not topped up the water for the radiator/reservoir for almost 4 years for my previous car as the level had been near max for long time

As long we use "pure" water, it shall do the job in the battery or radiator.. distilled water is a pure 100% water, without any other content inside, esp minerals.. the other water we can use is RO (=reverse osmosis) which is also 100% pure water, only difference is the method they use to get the pure water, distilled is by boiling the water and collect the water vapours back by cooling, RO is by using membrane to filter out those minerals.. sort of.. :)

So u can actually go to supermarket and buy Distilled or RO water, just make sure it is 100% pure, no other minerals added inside from the ingredients stated on the label.. of cos, easiest to get Battery water fr petrol kiosk, which is consider cheap also la, usually $1/bottle.

hi silver

i confirmed mine has no leakage too.
i topup my coolant reservior to "max level" (abt 1inch from the level to max level), with tap water.

if confirmed that distilled water can be used and it's better/BEST for coolant reservior and RADIATOR, then i will spend man!!!

regards.

tap water is just water with some minerals

rust formation (oxidation) occurs when you have metals, water and oxygen present

coolant (the green stuff) usually contain rust inhibitors

so it is okay to use clean tap water instead of distilled water unless you "tong poh" your car .......

Dont anyhow mix lah, now no leakage is good, dont mix here & there, later your radiator pik jar, susa lah~

Hi Silver,

Oh, no tong poh, so, just let it be liao, use tap water!!!

Guys, confirmed liao, use TAP WATER to topup for our Coolant reservior.

In fact, we should topup through RADIATOR right? instead of Coolant Reservior?

NSman,

Oh ya, si bei paiseh liao.
May be confused and luan liao.
May be both are related liao, coz linked to distilled water mah :)

For coolant related matters, please refer to coolant...

In Malaysia, distilled water is selling around RM1.xx!!! Ex man!
