Title: Drive mode - D, D1, D2
Post by: eclaire on July 03, 2008, 10:52:12 AM

D1 is like your first gear and D2 is your second gear, these 2 are more for climbing or going down severe slopes which is seldom used in Singapore. D is like your third gear (with OD off, the yellow light on your meter is on) and 4 gear with OD on. I normally would play with the OD button when I merge traffic or when overtaking.

Some MSCP very steep too.  D2 may come in useful, though D also can go up but feel the car struggle a bit when full load.  Think OD effect kicks in only after certain minimum speed, else won't feel it.

OD = OverDrive
it is automatically selected unless you activate the OverDrive Off function by pressing the button on the gearshift (on right side facing driver)

OD is the default mode when you select D in your 4AT. As mentioned, the OD off button is facing the Driver on the gear shifter. If you still don't know where is this, place your hand over the gear shifter in the most natural position, it's near your thumb.

Erm, just wondering, coz the menu says to press brakes before changing gear - what about changing between the various D modes - do I have to brake to a complete stop before I can change between the different D modes?

That should be meant for when you are shifting out of P or N.

you only need to depress the foot brake pedal (and push button A - the top button on the right hand side of the gear selector lever) when you change from Park to Reverse

you do not have to be at complete stop when you shift down to lower gear
if you check the manual, there are speed limits whereby you must not change to lower gear otherwise engine may over-rev and cause engine damage

Position 2 is 100 km/h
Position 1 is 55 km/h

note : when you change from position 2 to position 1, you will need to push the button A

if not sure, you can read pages 5-9 to 5-12 of the manual (Printing : March 2009 (09) version)

hope these will help you

If used correctly it should reduce your FC, if you are merging and do not have enough power to merge properly, you'll need to slow down and later got tp pick up speed again, I believe this will use more petrol than if you merge at a higher speed thus reaching crusing speed at a shorter time.

Hi Jazz,

What brand is your sound system (SS)?
Is it the one supplied by TC?
I had set mine (instructions in the SS manual) and it is ok.

When ignition switch is in off, clock is off.
Maybe, the key position is at Acc (2) whereby the electrical accessory power activates without the power turned on?

Yo Silver,
Mine is the default by JVC.

Yes, when the ignition switch is off, clock is off. But got 1 forumer requested his SE to activate to permanent on.

Hi Jazz, same JVC house brand as mine too...my clock will only activate when turn the acc key...the one with irritating sound when open driver's door yet wanna listen to radio... :scared:
Never knew that we can request SE to activate permanent clock...hmmm, can ask mine during next servicing... :w00t:

Hi Jazz,
Just to be sure, we are talking about JVC KW-XG506/KW-XG505.

Had done some checking.

Setting clock
Turn the ignition switch to position Acc (2).
Follow instructions on pages 17-18 which shows how to set clock.
(Clock H = Hour adjustment and Clock M = Minute adjustment)

Clock display
You can set the clock time to show on the display at all times when the power switch (on the SS unit) is turned off (the power switch is on the top left hand corner on the SS unit). However, the ignition switch must be in position Acc (2), ie, the car's electrical system must be set to deliver power to electrical accessories.

When the ignition switch is set to off, the clock display will not show at all.
However, when you press the DISP button, it will show the clock time for about 5 seconds irregardless of whether the power switch (on the SS unit) is turned on or off.

Hope this helps ..........

ohhh finally went to explore the button. Haven tried the car off yet, maybe can try it tonight =D

btw for bros who is still not sure about overdrive:

Quote from Wiki:
"Overdrive can refer to two different things. An overdrive is a device which was commonly used on rear-wheel drive automobiles to allow the choice of an extra-high overall gear ratio for high speed cruising, thus saving fuel, at the cost of less torque."
