Hope u don mind, a welcoming topic for u here.. :bleh: :bleh: since u r 1 of the pioneer in Latio CNG.. :)
from ur other thread,
oh really :confused1:
Done my conversion in May and it's coming to two mths already. I must say Latio is a difficult to tune. Tune 5 times already still having intermittent jerks now and then but liveable.
Tank size: 66L can hold abt 10kg of CNG which is good for abt 220km
Power loss: abt 10% but in Singapore driving ok
Welcoming u here bro n share with us ur CNG experience.. , m sure lots of members here will seek ur advice.. :)
Hmm.. 10kg = ~220km, sure a bit ma fan for regular travels like me, prob got to top-up every other day, and the problem is to go to the nearest CNG station.. but anyway, it is definitely a good savings with 1kg = 22km.
Few questions, if u don mind :) :-
(1) Where do u install ur CNG? It is good to know 1 which has experience in installing on a Latio.
(2) How much does it cost? Err.. hope u don mind let us know.. :bleh:
(3) Do they have ex-stock tanks now? How long do u nd to book/or wait? I have heard that waiting time for installing can b up to 6 mths now, due to higher demand now.
(4) Btw, u driving a Sedan or Sport Latio? Comfortable with the balance small boot space u hv nw?
Thanks for ur advices.
-
up for interest with the ever increasing petrol price.. sianz..
but the intermission jerking sounds like a little troubling.. hmm..
-
Guys, currently how many CNG pumps we have in Singapore? Other than the Jurong island one?
-
from what I know, there are 3 :
Mandai Link - Smart Energy
Jalan Buroh - Sembcorp Gas
Jurong Island (restricted access) - Sembcorp Gas
Smart Energy plans to open another CNG station in Serangoon North by the end of 2008.

I am not too sure if I am allowed to post the name of the installer here. Can PM me if you need the details.
(2) How much does it cost? Err.. hope u don mind let us know.. :bleh:
Total cost $3700 excl 7% GST
(3) Do they have ex-stock tanks now? How long do u nd to book/or wait? I have heard that waiting time for installing can b up to 6 mths now, due to higher demand now.
Sorry, I am not able to advice you. Best is to contact them directly. The last time (last week) I heard from them is that the waiting time is about 6-8 weeks.
(4) Btw, u driving a Sedan or Sport Latio? Comfortable with the balance small boot space u hv nw?
I am driving a Sedan.
Here are some pictures of my conversion,

Umm, to be precise. Those minors jerks come in when you leave the accelerator and step in again at low rpm (1500rpm to 2000rpm).
Once cruising at 80-100km/h, its normal as in petrol

To add in the cost.
Mandai Link - Smart Energy---->$1.49 per kg
Jalan Buroh - Sembcorp Gas ---> $1.35 per kg
Jurong Island (restricted access) - Sembcorp Gas --> abt $1.30+ unable to verify since I can't go in

Hey bro. Thanks! So when are u converting?

Hey bro. Thanks! So when are u converting?
Bro, you stay SK? If yes, think I saw your car before with the CNG sticker on white Latio. No chance to take photo.
-
Hi Kspchew. Welcome to the forum.
How's your space like after converting? Thats my primary concern.
I was the one who asked you about the 2 x 30l tank in the sgcng forum.
-
Hey bro. Thanks! So when are u converting?
nt so soon leh, wait for singapore pools to bless me with some cash :bleh:

Hi Bro,
Thks for ur advice, pls pm me the company who do it for u. I am considering to install 1 since i drive around so much (~3,000km/mth), so hope can save some petrol by using CNG. No time to go into details on this assembling, so thks for advising here.
Few more questions :-
(1) How do u switch between the petrol n CNG? Is there a button/switch to do it in ur driver side?
(2) Is there an insurance coverage from the installer (touch wood)... if it explodes? How safe is it? Or do we hv to get additional cover from our own car insurance?
(3) Roughly how heavy is the empty tank + all the things installed? Considering the additional 10kg full tank CNG weight is ok..
-
Woah, 3000km/mth sounds alot...think its a great idea to convert to CNG in your case...for me abt 1000km/mth...pump petrol abt 3 times per mth....dont think its viable to convert yet right? :confused1:

Few more questions :-
(1) How do u switch between the petrol n CNG? Is there a button/switch to do it in ur driver side?
Yes, there is a push button switch near the controls for the side mirror But, start up is in petrol, once optimum temperature is reached, it will change to CNG automatically.
(2) Is there an insurance coverage from the installer (touch wood)... if it explodes? How safe is it?
Nope. I covered it from my own insurance, abt $25 per $1000 value.
In fact , it is safer than our normal petrol tank. CNG tank can takes up to 350bar of pressure and there are extensive tests being conducted.
Or do we hv to get additional cover from our own car insurance?
(3) Roughly how heavy is the empty tank + all the things installed? Considering the additional 10kg full tank CNG weight is ok..
According to my installer, the dead weight of the 66L tank is abt 64kg + some fittings (abt 10kg)=74kg. So if pump full tank, it should be another 10kg. So total weight is abt 84kg. But this can be off set by having only 10L of petrol in your tank. So additional weight =84-35=49kg
PM you already/ Please check. For your queries, please refer to above. ;)

Well depends, my monthly mileage is about 2000km and I stay about 5km from the pump so for me its worth it. As for your case, you might want to consider the breakeven period and where you stay.

Thks bro, received ur pm.
Btw, do u research on other co b4 u installed there? any reason y u go there?
How about the rebate fr gov side? how much n how u claim it?
-
Yes, bro. The other company is more expensive and they want to take out my spare tire.
-
Price of CNG up to $1.79/kg at mandai :( Seems like no control
-
hi kspchew,
i would like to invite you down for our mega meet to showcase the CNG. We have not come across a CNG latio yet, believe it will be good to see your setup!

This increase in price of CNG is crazy :crying:
It will take a long time to recoup back the CNG tank installation charges of $3K to $4K now.

Yup, especially at the the benjamin sheares bridge, need to use OD, hence switching to petrol mode is not necessary. As for the quietness, I believe that our Latio's engine is already very quiet.
