Does anyone know where I can duplicate Latio spare key?
Just the key itself, not i-key.
I brought my Latio spare key to duplicate but the locksmith told me it cannot be duplicated as it has an ID. Have to go back to Tan Chong which costs $90! :scared:

hmmm.... u actually have 3 units tat can start your car
1) Transponder
2) iKey in transponder
3) Spare key.
still need?

The transponder and i-key in transponder will always have to be together, so that is considered as one.
Imagine if I carry just the transponder with me without the i-key and the transponder battery goes flat. I cannot lock/unlock or start my car.
Many people share the same car in the family - wife, father, mother, brother and sister so I need more spare keys.
$90 for one spare key is very expensive! :crying:
Do you know of other places where I can duplicate Latio spare key at a lower cost?

Aiyoh, I second that. So many people. Just hang spare key on the wall at home. Who wants to drive get it from the wall. If key is not on the wall, then also don't need to drive liao. Otherwise so many keys, walk all the way to carpark then realise someone else took the car....
Visual system!!!

Hi Clarence,
The transponder and i-key in transponder need NOT be together. I tried taking out the i-key from transponder and press the button to unlock my car. It works!

Yeah! Second that! I usually just leave my transponder when I go for servicing.

I thought that the spare key is just another piece of ordinally metal key, there is no transponder or micro chip in it ? To use it, it should works just like normal car keys, insert into the door key hole can open the door, and insert into the ignition lock can open the door.
For the i-key, the SE told me if the transponder is not working, or battery weak, we can withdraw the i-key and start the engine. Otherwise we need to bring our spare key everytime we drive, if not no battery cannot drive, then very mah fan liao.
Maybe you did not tell the locksmith that you want to duplicate the normal car key ?
-
you can duplicate the physical key, no problems at all. But cannot start the engine becos it does not have a chip inside...

This feature seems to be a blessing in disguise.
That means Latio is hard for car thieves to start and drive off.
Has there been any cases of stolen Latios in Singapore?

Ahh... It's something new to me. The spare key is one with the micro chip.
What about the i-key, some says can start engine without the transponder. I mean the transponder is not inside your pocket or someway near you. If so, the i-key looks only a bare metal without the micro chip right ?
-
i-key is similar to your spare key.
It has a micro chip inside too.
i-key can be used to start and unlock/lock car without transponder.
-
i believe>> all the keys (i-key, transponder key, spare key) all got a chip inside to start engine one...
so by duplicating the key itself = can open door and boot.. but cant start the car engine
