Think need about 3.5Liter.  That's 3 and half bottle of 1000ml.
Buy 4 bottles this round and 3 bottles next round.  Keep the half bottle for next round.   ::)

May not be advisable to use opened engine oil that that may have oxidised.

You can buy 4 bottles, but if you still have any remainder left, best to discard after 6 months if you don't need to top up engine oil.

There is a very reasonable priced fully synthetic engine oil, Carlube Triple R 5W40 enine oil that sells at only $29.90 for 5 litres (NOT 4 litres) at Giant and Carrefour.

http://forum.onemotoring.com.sg/mvnforum/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=5082

You can even afford to have an oil change at every 5,000km instead of the usual 10,000km since it is so cheap.

Their 5w30 also good pricing....yesterday 10k servicing , TCM only use 2.5 to 2.8L.

That means there is still at least 1.2 litres of old dirty engine oil in your oil slump?  :confused1:

4 litres of engine oil should be used for every oil change.

Shell and Mobil synthetic  engine oils are expensive at $90+ for 4 litres. So motorists keep to maintenance schedules of 10K km for every oil change.

But Carlube synthetic oil is cheap at $29.90 for 5 litres - even cheaper than Shell or Mobil mineral oil. So can afford to change engine oil every 5K km, even though it can last 10K km.

Just keep track on your timetable of 5K/3 months or 10K/6 months whichever comes 1st.

Squeeze the bottle before screwing on the cap. It should keep for a fairly long period at room temperature. If oil can last >6mths in sloshing around the engine at high temperatures, it can certainly last >6mths at room temperature in a sealed bottle.

I would recommand using Carlube oso.. Many good and not bad reviews about carlube, and we can afford to change them pretty often, so why spend so much money to buy an expensive engine oil and onli change them every 10k or even 15k, where they will get quite dirty?

No offence to other bros coz its ur choice, but i have bought a Carlube 5w40 and it has been sitting in my storeroom for 2months + awaiting my servicing next month  :yehyeh:

If engine oil can be changed every 10k, why bother to change with one that need to change every 5K ?

Cost you money (labour) and time (much better things to do). Unless you take it as a hobby to diy.

The oil may be dirty at change of 10K, but still functioning.

To me, the feeling of fresh engine oil always makes my ride more smooth n nice, I don't know do you feel that way.

5K or 3 month to spend abt SGD50 to have that feel..I think it quite ok...55cents per day?

Of course you can use opened engine oil, even if the bottle has been left opened for 10 years.

The main concern is whether opened oil still serves its purpose - its additives would be oxidised and deemed not as efficient in protecting your engine.

Used engine oil can be used to give the plastics in your engine compartment that shine.

After I use tissue to wife off the engine oil and gear box oil from the dip stick, I use eth tissue to wipe the plastics and it shines and darkens the plastics!

Used engine oil may be carcinogenic. So this may not be a good idea...

You are using synthetic engine oil for your 1,000km oil change?

In case you are unaware, oil change at 1K, 5K and 10K km service are free, even if you are not on NPMP.

Mineral oil is used for 1K and 5K km to help run in the engine.

Title: Re: engine oil
Post by: clarence on September 16, 2008, 11:46:12 AM
Generally, it is recommended to use '40' engine oil.

You don't want to compromise lower fuel consumption at the expense of protection for your engine.

You can imagine how hard your engine has to work to run that air con compressor on a hot sunny day at above 35 degrees temperature outside, even worse if car is stuck in traffic jam and there is no air to cool the engine.

And Latio does not have engine temperature gauge.

What happens if the red "high temperature" bulb in your dashboard blows or is not working when your engine is overheated?   :zipped:

5W30 would be on the safer side. EO is meant for protecting your engine more on your behaviour of your driving pattern, not much related to weather.  ;)
