Hi all,
I'm on a look-out for a 2nd hand 2006 Latio sedan. However, I'm dun have an idea how to differentiate between a 4AT or CVT and of course the price would definitely has some differences as well.
Any bro/sis can guide me on my queries? eg. any links to past discussion on this topic?
Thank you.

cvt is available on the premium model only. premium model has the alcantara (suede-like) seats, fog lights, center console (lazy driver arm rest)

Thanks for the prompt reply.
Do you mean those Latio with all round beige colour interior are only offer to the premium CVT model?
-
detach8 is correct
can go to showroom to pick up a brochure
I have spare Latio (2008) brochure if you want
also note that premium models come with the rear passenger armrest cum rear cup holders cum large opening to access the luggage compartment (boot) from within the cabin
also front pillar tweeters
aluminium alloy rims, console box and fog lamps can be retro-fitted on the basic model

Beige interior is also available for the cheaper Latio basic 4 speed auto.

No, just not sure whether I will keep the car for long ... as such, I'm looking into 2-3 years old car ... Latio is one of my preference for sedan with good FC ... I like the classic beige interior of Latio.

Really! .. I think I better do more homework now before heading to the used-car showroom ...

Mine is beige. Pro seems not really hot but cons is find my leather seat like getting dirty easily.
Why not wait for the new FL Honda City, look chio to me. :D

Colour, arm-rest, etc can be changed. Since it is the transmission that is different, just look at the transmission stick. Think 4AT transmission has gears "1" and "2" (not sure because mine is CVT and my previous 4AT car has gears 1 & 2). CVT don't have gears 1 & 2.
-
another distinctive thing about premium is that the interior trims are wooden, not silver... correct me if i am wrong bros.
used car... if you are not familiar with cars and engines and such and is going to buy from a used car dealer, i STRONGLY suggest that you get a new car instead. i had myself 2 used cars. ya, and thanks to them i learn a hell lot about cars, but i paid a hefty price for it also.
one is a 2 year old renault van (kangoo 1.4A petrol). this van is in pristine condition. no crash no bang. i know cos i got it from my uncle. parts still started crapping out at near 60,000km servicing. btw, parts are not cheap, even when it is just a van, because its bloody renault!
and my second horror experience was a nissan march '96 1.0A. although it is freakin 13 years old but take my word for it, any car whether 1 year, 3 yrs or 13 yrs if not taken care of or crash and banged up, you are in for lots of trouble. the typical mentality is... if i am selling my car... ayiah no need to service lah, just whack... and sell it

Guys,
Thanks for all the valuable comments and experiences on Latio ... Is 2nd hand Latio really that bad? But a new one seems costly according to the Nissan website ... so now will have to so some homework ... Since there are still uncertainty of oil price, I am looking for a general good FC, sedan car ... not many falls under this category ... besides Latio, there are Vios and City ... so now still in a dilemma ...
-
The Daihatsu Materia 1500cc is another good alternative at $53.8K for auto. It shares the same engine as the Toyota Vios.

Forget about Vios or City which are assembled in Thailand. Cost price is very low with low labour & material costs in Thailand. I find these 2 cars overpriced.

Hahahaha. Agreed bro. My dad used to drive a Renault 19. Parts are really premium priced. Worse thing was we bought a new cooling fan and it came wired wrong so the fan ran in reverse instead...

Yeah! Avoid the Thailand crap! My dad had a vios when he was in thailand. Engine sounded and felt like a diesel just after 1 year.
This was the major factor when I was deciding between vios and latio when I bought my car. I would rather have bought a Japanese Sunny than the Thai vios. In fact, I have heard Latio production shifting to thailand. When that happens, I would avoid latio also.

Have u visited a TCM showroom to ask abt prices & packages? The prices on websites not accurate u know. You'll be surprised how much TCM has slashed their prices thanks to the economy, 7th month plus new facelifted model launching soon. Go ask. Worth yr time.

last i heard the '07 4AT ex-stock is going for $52k. if you don't want body kit it is $51k. so this is cheaper than a vios. or you can consider the lancer glx at $48k, but a bit lousier fuel economy and build. don't trust sgcarmart pricing for new cars. not accurate. i suspect the reason why it is so high because dealer need the margin to do overtrade for people.
hmm if i look at second hand price on sgcarmart now...
take this as an example:
http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-2ENCkAlz-1068.html
$42,100 for 2 years old car = $42,100 / 8 years left = $5262.50 / year
$52,000 for a new car = $52,000 / 10 years left = $5200.00 / year
almost the same price, but don't forget it is a brand new car... with warranty! now they are throwing in free NPMP i think, so that is 3 year free labour and parts.
and if i am not wrong, new car loan interest rate is lower.
2nd hand car can be good deal if you know how to see. best if you have friends who are mechanic. must check if the car had accident before or not but otherwise some things even the trained eye cannot see...

This is very true. Especially if the chasis is damaged. Very hard to tell by normal inspection.
-
Hi,
Not sure what is your needs, but can try Jazz/Fit which has good FC.
Heard that Hyndai cars has improved .... so another option for you.
-
if you die die need to buy a latio, i recommend first hand as the prices have gone down quite a bit for the new cars.
generally i feel second hand latio is overpriced( dont expect too much difference in depreciation compared to 1st hand)
go and test drive a few car first before commiting. my reason for latio is because of the beige interior (i dont like black interior) no other cars in this price range offers.

Your calculation of the depreciation is wrong.
You forgot that there is a scrap value of approximately $7K.
In summary, 2nd hand Latio depreciation (2005 registered onwards) ranges from $3800 to $4200 a year, depending on model (4A/T, CVT, Sports).
Brand new Latio deprecition ranges from $4600 to $5200 a year.
-
thanks for pointing out bro. my caculation is not accurate. there are too many factors to consider.
i did a very rought calculation
not forgetting car PARF value decrease from 5th year onwards at 10% per year, so the "resale" price i did not take into consideration when calculating this. i am just assuming you pay up fully for the car and expect $0 in return
nontheles the difference in $ is not very much, at most few hundered a year. but a car with prior accident history and without warranty, is what really what i personally fear!

If you buy 2nd hand, you can send it for STA or VICOM evaluation which costs about $100.
If you are concerned about warranty issues, just buy 1 that is less than 3 yrs old, which would still be under warranty, so that if there are any faults, you can get it fixed for free at Tan Chong.

3 years warranty from TCm is only valid if the previous owner did his/her past servicing with TCM.

Hmm... personally, i dun quite trust STA or VICOM coz the people there all seem very bo-chup. Better go to a mechanic or workshop u trust. At least your regular workshop will know u are repeat business so they tend to be more thorough. Just my 2 cents.

Several forumers here have confirmed that TC honoured the warranty even though the customer dis not service at TC during warranty period.
Receipts of regular servicing during recommended intervals must be produced.

iagree, provided the genuine parts are not spoilt by other servicing ctr?

< 3 years if accident free, i think should be fine. just make sure you report the slightest problem to get things changed otherwise some wear and tear parts you can never tell when it is going to kaput.
don't bother viacom or those "inspection", my crappy nissan march also can get a B at the inspection but the car is having a previous accident repair mark on the bonnet, rich engine and botak front brake pad.
last time i ********, ask the 2nd hand dealer send for inspection, now.. NEVER, i think i inspect myself lagi better.

agreed that getting used car has many factors to concern :out:...for me, just got my latio in end jun and found out the centre lock is not functioning well at the drive side  Thanks God :yehyeh: :yehyeh: :yehyeh: as my car still under warranty though it's about few more days reaching 3yrs. Sent my car to TC, at 1st, they claimed that it's normal and tried to showed me other latio cars there, but others seem like working fine. Left my car there (as it's already late evening), and TC changed the centre lock for me FOC in next day  So far still quite happy with my car, by FC still not as high as it could be (~12km/l as seeing many lations can get >14km/l)

Yo guys,
My ride hitting 28000 KM soon, going for my 5th servicing soon leh. Wanna to service @ Msia's TCM :)
-
lol dont worry i'm getting 12km/l too... it might hve to do with your travel pattern
i work in tanjong pagar area.. if u drive to that area at 9am from west u know bloody AYE always jam at Alexandra there then right after that exit the traffic is smooth liao (govt v. smart! put the gantry there to gather "statistics"... tmd)
i also drive to my gf's place after work, then i drive home. weekend also the same up and down trip, so short trips are bad for FC. anyway... i think fuel prices have come down a little. time to enjoy the ride abit more. :D~

I think the most important is to make sure you have some basic knowledge into how to check whether did the car ever suffer from any major accident damages. If not, then the only thing you will need to do is to make sure that you go to a reliable 2nd hand car dealer.
I have gotten my own 1.5 years latio premium from a 2nd hand car dealer and he even showed me how to check whether did the car went through heavy repair due to major accidents. He also brought the car to TC for a thorough checks and servicing before releasing to me. Even reduce 2k immedaitely understanding that I'm a geniune buyer and does not like to waste time.
The catch is be patience!!! Dont just jump in without knowing how deep is the pool.
There are many experiences and guides here in this forum and also from the net.

Your dealer must be 1 in a million.
Can you share the dealer name with us?
