Sent my car in to Tan Chong Bt Timah today at 9am.
When I told the Service Advisor (SA) the problems, I was taken aback by his defensive attitude.
I have highlighted in BLUE the answer the SA gave me when I collected my car :
1. I told him that my air con ws not cold when I set it at 24 degree and he said that I had to set it to 22 degree. He also said that 25 degree is meant to be heater temperature :confused1: :confused1: :confused1:
Ans: Air-con is normal. Need to set thermostat temperature lower nearer to 20 degrees. :(
2. I told him that the wing mirror seemed to be loose as I could hear the mirror vibrating when I close my driver door. He immediately shot back that this was due to the blind spot mirror I fitted on my wing mirror. I had done checks and am 100% sure it has nothing to do with the blind spot mirror. This vibration already occured before I fitted thr blind spot mirror.
Ans: Nothing wrong with mirror. Vibration still exists. :(
3. Next was the notorious KIAK sound when one closes the boot. Again, he immediately shot back that I could have hit the metal rod with some object. Anyone of who owns a Latio and am of sound mind would know the positionof the metal rod, above the CD changer would deem it impossible for this to happen.
Ans: KIAK sound is gone when I closed my boot at 5:00pm during car collection, but sound appeared again when I just trie dclosing the boot again at 8:30pm. :(
4. Then I told the SA about the numerous bubbles on the window tinting on one of my side windows and requested for tinting on that particular window panel to be redone. I also told him that I am willing to overlook the other 2 side windows which has 2 bubbles on each window. Again, the SA shot back and asked me if the window tinting was done outside. I suspect he needs to have his eyes checked and be prescribed glasses, as there is a ULTRAMAX sticker on my windscreen, clearly indicating that the tinting was a Tan Chong Mtotrs in-house job.
Ans: Nothing done. KIV till next servicing. :confused1: :(
I was told that my car would be ready for collection at 3pm. When I arrived at 3pm, I was told that my car was not ready for collection yet. I finally collected it at 5pm, despite asking for my car not to be washed or vacuumed thinking I could collect my car faster.
I am amazed how a simple 1000km oil change could take a total of 8 hours.
I had been very polite during my conversation with this SA, and do not condone such unacceptable bad service from a reputable distributor like tan Chong Motors.
Those who plan to purchase a Nissan, I would strongly urge you to have 2nd thoughts.

It not abt the Brand, company or the rest of the Staffs...
Just that 1 solo, single SA that damage the whole show, my advise, write into their customer service, name the SA and let them know...to me their Customer Service works.
Please post his name and let's shame him... :devil2:

hi clarence
3 words to offer to you.
TAKE IT EASY!
-
Thought the Bukit Timah service center is the best among other Tan Chong service center? SO which service center most recommended?
-
i tot UBI and Bukit timah are the 2 best one??
-
I thought the Bt Timah branch was the best too, until I sent my car in for servicing.
Service standards have apparently dropped drastically, as related by a friend of mine when I related this incident to him.
My friend was telling me that his Nissan Sunny was not properly checked during servicing and those ticks on the service docket were simply ticked without the proper checks being done. :nonod:
-
I always send my ride to Ubi, the service there is . My service engineer will make sure my problems are resolved & follow-up by calling me.

me oso service at UBI, , my service engineer oso very good, even after my 1k service, i call him 2 days later, he still ask me to go down to resolved the problem for me.
-
Cool down. Write his name onto the survey form that you received with your invoice and sent it back to them
Have tried Toa Payoh and Lok Yang, both offer decent service and the staffs are pleasant. Anyway, my warranty expired already, so going to AS.
-
Disclaimer first: I'm not working for TCM.
I brought my car to check for some engine noise, outside my servicing schedule, at the BT SC some 2 weeks back. I was rather pleased with their service. They changed a few parts for me under the warranty, no questions asked. They even followed up with a call a few days later to check if the problem was resolved. The same level of service was rendered when i was at Ubi SC the previous time. I tend to beileve that alot of bros here had the same experience as me.
While i sympathize with your unfortunate experience, lets be fair to TCM and not condemn their hard work jus bcoz of an isolated incident. There will always be a 'purple traitor' in any organization no matter how hard 1 tries. You should identify that idiot to the management. I'm sure royalty treatments will follow thereafter as they care for their customers. :devil2:
1 thing though, you should always call n check if your car is rdy for collection or wait for their SMS. Expected time of collection is not the confirmed time of collection.
Cheers!

can we all know who this SA name? btw i heard Ubi has bad history???
-
i have been going to the west west side (lok yang?) for my service
my 1000km service on a sat morning 9am i had a very very rude SA... and the same problem with mine was the kiak sound when closing boot. his response was "ITS LIKE THAT ONE" and told me he will show me other latio with this problem. hai.. nevermind. i just want to get my servicing done and get lost. took about 2.5 hours.
my 5000km service on a sat morning 8am.. now i know liao must go earlier cos by 9am the place is crowded sia. the SA was nice and friendly, and he explain the various things they going to service today. i did not have anything to complain about the car, so do not know how they will respond to the requests. took slightly less than 2 hours.
actually i learn that when going servicing try to go during off peak time because on days like saturday these people also want to quickly clear off the cars and go home...
btw for the boot noise just apply grease on the red plastic.

Hi arias48
I would like to say this to you abt TCM @ BT, "my foot" :)
My boot noise problem, during my 1000km (first) service, i told them abt this noise issue, they said it's like that one, all Latio rides have this problem!!! Ma de, u imagine? Then they just apply something on the 2 "rods" to lubricating it... but it doesn't help to solve that issue at all?
Regards.

I always send my ride to Ubi, the service there is . My service engineer will make sure my problems are resolved & follow-up by calling me.
Hi canjoy
Who is that guy whom service u?
His name pls?

Hi canjoy
Who is that guy whom service u?
His name pls?
I think we should name the guys/gals who service us, so that we can be aware when he/she attend to us.
I sent my car on 17th Jan 2009 at bukit timah for my 1000km.
The name of the guy who service me is alex, and i can see his service is pretty good ( though his face doesnt look those friendly kind). He explains to me what are the things they will service ( i dont know if they got service or wat, tat is another thing). I installed the security alarm as well and he is quite patient to show me the function.
-
i understand your agony bro...me also experience this for my 20,000 servicing at Ubi.....long service timing i still can accept but one issue can't forgot is when i highlighted the pop up of the security sensor cover on the dashboard and wanted them to change, they did not do anytihing end of the day...at first said they forgot, den wait another 30min say the cover out of stock got to indent for a week leadtime but i waited almost 3 weeks without anyone calling....end up i called my SE but he said can't do anything unless i remember who the service manger name den he can refer....but so long how to remember so end up have to wait till next serivcing man.....sigh... :crycry:

Agreed with you, Alex is good. I got two yellow patches on two rims, highlighted to UBI during 1K service, they did nothing. Sent to BT one month later with another problem (rattling noise), he make arrangement with rims supplier for site inspection and they agreed to get a replacement for me. My car is now sitting at BT@SC to get this thing done together with 5K service.

Hi Clarence,
Who is the guy?
You shld look for Steven or Stephen @ Bkt Timah TCM. They are better.
As for the collection time, you must wait there, it will be faster. You can tell them you will be waiting at the lounge (but you can go anywhere you like...)
For my 1000, 5000, 10000 and recent 38000km servicing, there were ok.
May be that man is moody for this 2 weeks?
Regards.

Hi all
iagree with ah gui. must do that else they think we can be bully anyhow.

hi
i think out of so many service engineers, one or two are lousy is expectable...
donno how to say... just cant help much, what clarence can do is to talk to the upper mgmt abt the attitude of the service engineer! throw his ricebowl?
-
hi guys
imo, everywhere aso have the 害群之马...
so far i have not met any of them at tcm@bkt timah.
but for my boot kiak sound, during my 1000 servicing, i forgot that guy's name, he told it is normal & other latio aso hving the same problem, he showed and demo to me by using the other latio next to my car (in the servicing area, ohhh, now think back, may be the owner of that car was complaining abt the boot's noise aso? haha. Relax)
regards.

So I'm not alone. My problem is not about rude SA/Es, my problem is the kind of service/work they do to your car. (read my other posts for details) Send the car for servicing as good as not servicing. The prob highlighted doesnt seemed to be rectified.
For me, i accept the mechanics take a longer time to service my car as long as they help me maintain and keep the car in good shape. But I cannot accept that when I turn up for my appointment, i have to wait for 30min before someone come and take over the car.
I too experience the tok sound every time i go over the hump. Before my 1k service, there was no sound. After the 1k service, the sound appears. Have yet to rectify that prob. Cos it is not as pressing as that grain of sand stuck in between my window and solar film!!
The Latio is a good car to drive, more so after some mods. But i tink there are some design probs thats y all these complaints by drivers. And perhaps it is these complaints that pissed the SA/Es off. Having to face them so many times a day everyday certainly will pissed a saint off.
-
so did you try any other workshop that solve your problem? workshop that can rectify all kinds of problem, not those that can fix then fix can not then ask you go back to TCM type. We like to know too.

Ying are you referring to me??
I do not know of any trustable workshop... am hoping to hear or see some recommendations by the bro/sis here
-
one thing i am sure about the car wash at TPY branch. I take it as they wash the car with air gun. Its ok for me since petrol station car wash not as clean and detail anyway, stillI perfer to DIY wash/wax the car.

nop, to all in general. I also have some problems that I still ignore them. TCM want to replace the part but I think still can repair. Then the vibrating sound etc... dun think busy TCM will entertain each and every problem we have especially if it is a minor one
-
Eh i just did my 1k servicing at Bukit Timah.
Positive:
- Pleasant attitude
- Straight away car was sent collected by them (maybe because my appt. is 11.30am on weekday)
Negative:
- Waited for 3hours just for 1k servicing
- The service man did not brief me anything at all when he hand the car over to me. Dont know what they have actually done.
- The service center 'scar' my side mirror, my white color paint chip off on the edges (saddly to say that i only found out when i drove out of the service center)
- 1k servicing should including washing of the car, it is damm badly done. I can still see oil grease on the bumper and side mirror bodykit gaps
Next time when collect from back, do remember to check the car for any chips off.

hi melvin
that is the key thing...
not trustable workshop, so i choose TCM & its NPMP, i will drive the car back to them and bang the table if they dont solve it.
-

hi ying
iagree w u, their washing is not very detail/clean.
i pay rm8 @ jb to get the malay owner to wash for me, lagi bersih dan murah....
if 3layers waxing + washing, they charge abt RM130 , take abt 1 to 2hrs for that, so far my car has not done any waxing & washing.
petrol station washing service is not so good aso.
imo, generally, TCM does give me good quality service & good impression also even though i am not 100% satisfy with their services rendered to me. Now with the NPMP i signed up with them, i will TARUH dan HANTAM them kau kau if the problems i highlighted to them didn't get it solved asap and without reasons!

hi 1stTimer
i used to be 1stTimer @tcm aso.
iagree with u, must check the car properly b4 drive off.
u know what i did for my last 38000km major service? when the car is ready for collection, they will usually park it near the security guard house area, i walked over and go around the car to take a look here & there (roughly, not very detail) to make sure there is 'kemek' (e.g. certain part of the body is KO by them... so that i can tell them to take a look immediately... ALSO, remember to take back the parts that they had replaced for you, if any... if you have chg by ur own not long ago, e.g. the Wiper Blade... and so on)

2 weeks ago i went to TCM@BT to surface the steering coupling problem to them. The Service Advisor that attended to me is very friendly and patient. Because i just collect my car and i jot down a list of 7 problems on a piece of paper. He actually took over and patiently read them one by one!
His name is Sonny. Few days later i called Sonny again regarding some other issues and he said he will check and call me back and he really did, on the same day. You all can try him.
But can i ask, Service Advisor (SA) is SA and those wearing coverall are technicians right?
Technician generally very rough with the car, very defensive and dun usually know what is customer service. Bad experience with technician. For test drives, usually is SA accompany us or technician accompany us?

For test drives, the tester (think same uniform as SA) will go with u and they will any how ram ur car till 4K RPM, they abused (rough) ur car like no body business. Really heart pain when test drives with them. Petrol dropped 1 bar after servicing and test drives. :crycry: Worse, still cannot detect my rattling noise. :out:
-
Technicians are technicians... they dun usually deal with customers. Hence relac abit with them lor, wat to do. if u pissed them, the next time they see ur car, they can either dun service well, or make the service look well but it isnt or the throw a wad of cotton wool into your exhaust... :crycry: quite LL, we are at their peril...
for test drives, the car is not theirs, y would they bother about driving carefully for you??
I went to TPY for a number of service for my Sunny. somehow dun find it good.... maybe they gotten the service done very quickly ba?? lol

Agree. rattling noise is very hard to detect. my car jerkiness in low RPM also hard to detect. And they rev like nobody business. Sorry to grumble again because that day i got so ****ing pissed off because i already told the technician low rpm then the jerkiness will come and he still rev the car. Like that how to test? I really feel like giving him a piece of my mind. And while test driving he is still sms-ing. Extremely pissed off.

I totally agree, we are at their mercy. Wonder if we complain to their customer service, will they tell the technician "the owner of SGK 12345K complain about you..... "

just called TCM regarding the steering coupling issue.. was told by the SA that since I did not service my car at TCM regularly, I can't claim warranty..
sigh..... :(
-
oh? so the condition of the warranty is to send the car to TCM for servicing regularly?? that is ridiculous. your servicing sucks, so i went to other places to service. if i'm you i will slam that right in their faces.
-
just to check, if you always service a honda or toyota outside, can go back to AD to claim for any parts after 3 yrs?

Bro, ask them to reply to u officially in black n white, wat is the reason/caused of ur problem, and mention u cant claim warranty becos u din service regularly at TC. Dont let them bully u jus like tt.. :)

Go there and bang the table hard. Servicing has nothing to do with steering coupling problem which is a known and common problem with Latio. Prove to them that you had properly service your car outside.

my friend told me he service his new PI car at Comfortdelgro which provide 5 years waranty. Do you think we can get such service package from them?

i dun like comfortdelgro. u pay them $$, the $$ goes to the "you-know-who" who keeps all $$ and still tax u even more.

like that ahh... but how to 'siam" in Singapore, either way also kena pay. They say you paid for first class service wor. OK, political aside but I never service at comfortdelgro before so not sure is their sercive is technically better than TCM.
They will give singaporean some ang bao by today leh.

comfort delgro prices generally is higher, but it is like TCM, while waiting for car to be service, can drink coffee tea or milo and eat cheapo khong Guan biscuits. ;D

just received a call from TCM after I wrote in demanding an explaination. they allow me to claim the steering coupling for now. in future, all warranty claims will be entertained only if vehicle is serviced at TCM. :(

i would v much like to go to the workshop outside provided the mechanic really knows how to service the car. cos workshops outside are generally smaller scale businesses. In this lean times, it is these SMEs that require a lot of help to help stay afloat. For those big companies, its ok for them to suffer some loses since in good times, they have siphoned off so much from us. (think about the banks and their miserly small interests)

sorry folks,

Worse, still cannot detect my rattling noise. :out:
is this the dreaded rattling sound that most Latio owner complained about? Mine seems to come from the left of the front passenger door but some how cannot seems to pin point exactly where...you know the irony of it...when i on radio the damn sound seems to stand out but every time i lower the radio...just can't seems to hear it..

To me i notice that if you turn on aircon and drive long distance, the rattling sound is more prominent, sometimes also when you put to reverse gear and start reversing.
I tried 2 days, drive without aircon, and i hear little or no rattling noise.
I dunno how to tell the service advisor in order for him to troubleshoot help me effectively.
Help ! Also ;-p
-
From my experience with TCM on a similar problem, the service advisor would have to assign one of his mechanics to test-drive the car with you. Until he hears the rattling noise, they will not be able to identify the problem and fix it. So, you will have to find the time and patience for the TCM people to resolve the problem for you. It's a pain in the neck but I supposed there is no other way.
-
For my case, its even worse..

Could it be the aircon vent that is giving you this problem? I ever complained about rattling sound from passenger side, but the sound is only audible when I turn down my car radio audio voulme. They changed all the aircon vent and the sound is gone.

It is quite mind blogging. The aircon vent fitting is tight, there isn't any loose part tied to it. I did quite a search in here and there are other possibilities. The worse part is i can't tell the SA to change the vent directly. I guess the only way is to get the mechanic sit with me to hear the sound and let him solve it. Pain in the neck but think is the only way...

Agrees with you. He needs to see the reproduction of the issue to identify the root cause. But us as working folks, most of the time will just drive the car to workshop and leave the car there and go back to office. Guess may have to take a half day to make this happen. Just curious .. can this problem be reproduced easily or intermittent in nature?

Agrees with iagree. He is the best SA that I have come across in TCM. He is friendly and patient despite me asking him tons of questions when I collect my car after the accident repair.
That aside, he is one of the few TCM staff who does not drive a Nissan. He drives a yellow suzuki swift sports. His car heavily "zeng". Guess you guys can consult him on "zeng" matters too.

The sound is intermittent, that is why it is so difficult. I though i should wake up at 6:30am, drive to changi and then back and reach TCM@BT by 8am and hopefully the rattling sound will appear after a long drive....

I think not worth the effort lor ... cau there is good chance that the rattling sound cannot be reproduced by TCM or yourself. Best is to get a workshop or TCM SA who knows to look into it. If not, will be a wild goose chase.
May I suggest you to give Steven of TCM Bukit Timah a call (dun quote me pls) to see whether he has come across this or not? If not, check whether some of the reputable workshops quoted here are able to help.
