Title: Necessary to do wheels alignment?
Post by: moochi on September 11, 2008, 04:17:27 PM
I intend to change my tires soon. My questions is whether is it necessary to do wheels alignment or just balancing is good enough?

I was quoted by Stamford Tyres, the package of 4 new tires include free nitrogen gas and balancing but no wheels alignment.

wheel alignment is not necessary, but good to do.

Wheel alignment is important when you touch your suspension system, or when there's an extraordinary amount of uneven wear.

It is best to do wheel alignment if the tires shown uneven wear. Wheels alignment out  cause petrol consumption slightly higher. My tires had uneven wear and steering wheel constantly pulling to left side. I went to do the wheel alignment and found the car could travel straight without adjust the steering wheel to right direction. Thus I recommend to carry out wheel alignment if there is any uneven wear on the tires.

Some years back, I changed to new set of firestone tyres due to uneven wear on the existing tyres. I did not realise that it was due to wheel mis-aligned. Within 6 months after changing, I had to replace them again. Never realise how wheel mis-alignment can be so serious.

Dun worry if you change your rim and tyres at Stamford. They will not risk their reputation.  :D
