Just cleared my 5000Km check yesterday...
Nothing has much .. just simple maintenance ..but at least i got my car back in 3 hours :yehyeh: :yehyeh:
Told them about my dropping visor for the front doors.. btu i hinted them to redo all the 4 visors hehe
end up, they REDO all my visors .. so now the 4 of them are sticking on nicely liao haha .. BEST thing is >> its FOC haha. I tot must pay one
Hmm next check up is 10Km check..... Is it classified as Free Servicing (like 1k, 5k check) or Maintenance Servicing?
Got difference??
What do i need to do or pay??
I know i am changing EO to Fully synthetic but... what is the cost and procedures???
Any one can advise me??

10K shd be free like 1k, 5k. Someppl might have more free servcing, so theirs would be extended.
Cost - Dunno,
Procedure - the SA will ask if you want to upgrade to Synthetic on the spot.
-
If you are not on NPMP, you need to top up $$$ for synthetic engine oil.
-
i'm on the NPMP prgramme... 3 free servicings + 4 more free servicing
So for my case, under the NPMP, if they ask me to change to fully synthetic oil>> do i still need to pay for their inhouse brand - Shogun and Fastflo ???

The fasflo synthetic oil is included in the NPMP... but not too sure if it's included in the 10K servicing in your case as the 10k svc without free NPMP give only mineral oil as per the 1K and 5K servicing.

Since you are on NPMP, you do NOT have to pay for Fasflo synthetic oil for your 10K km oil change, but you have to top up a little $$$ for Shogun engine oil.

Need to top up for shogun engine oil?
meaning its better engine oil?? :confused1:
any brother tried the shogun yet??
-
Unless you are going to redline often with spirited driving in your Latio, Fasflo should suffice.
-
see ur npmp paper which is sent to u... mine states Synthetic at 10k onwards...

my paper said got synthetic oil.. but never say how much haha
-
To change EO to fasflo - its FREE
but to change to shogun - need to pay ... but HOW much to top up and what are the type available (w30, w40, etc etc)
how to see EO rating??
normally its 5w40 or 0w40 or just 0w30 )?>> the 1st 2 digits (5w or 0w) is what?? last 2 digit is for the viscosity (thick or thin - the bigger the number , the thick)
From the sticky thread,
5w40 is for good maintenance but how will it affect FC (improve or decrease FC)?
0w40 is for good FC but how good is it for maintenance?
0w30 is for performance but does it mean low FC....?
-
In 0W40 for example, ignor eth first number as it is applicable only for winter climate.
With the hot and humid weather in S'pore and unforgiving stop and go city traffic conditions, an oil rating of 40 gives optimium protection for current batches of Latio on S'pore roads which are all less than 4 yr old.

Bro, for ur case, on ur 3rd 10K servicing which is free, recommend u to top-up for Fully-Syn Oil. U nd to pay additional for changing the normal free Mineral Oil under ur 3rd servicing package. If u intend to change to in-house Fully Syn oil, recommend u to use their Fastflo oil. Don't use Shogun (also their in-house oil which is more expensive), where I have experienced drop in mileage (fr ~12km/L to ~10km/L, and also lack of power). U may search our past forum discussion on this Shogun n Fastflo performance, few of us here have tried and it was not good on feedback.
After u hv top-up for Fully Syn oil at the 3rd servicing, ur free NPMP program will follow at 20K, 30K, 40K and 50K, which all of them they will use in-house Fastflo fully-syn oil which is okay. Just rem to insist on Fastflo during all these servicing, not Shogun. :)
Of cos the other choice u hv is to use the free normal mineral oil at 10K servicing, but then ur continuing NPMP will be "odd" at 15K, 25K, 35K and 45K.
Hope u get a clearer picture on the above. Cheers.

Fastflo isn't that fast hor...bring your own oil ba..few good brands out there...

I've tried both the Fasflo and Shogun before for my Latio but felt both affected FC and pickup. Ride felt sl sluggish too. I'm now using Carlube from Giant 5W40: cheap and good :devil2:

As I mentioned earlier, if you are under NPMP, you do not have to top up for Fasflo synthetic engine oil at 10,000km oil change.
If you are not under NPMP, then you have to top up $$$.

bro, ditch the fastflo la...even me on NPMP for my past 2 ride with TCM...I BYO engine oil.
-
Not worth to spend extra money to bring your own oil when the oil is already included in the package.
But I could be wrong.
What is so bad about Fasflo?

I could be wrong but 1K to use fully synthetic oil seems to be too early....

It is highly recommended to use mineral oil for 1000 and 5000 oil change to allow the engine to fully run in properly before starting on synthetic oil at 10,000km.
Premature use of synthetic oil can affect the running in process and damage the engine in the long run.

Is this a hearsay or there's some proof to back this up cos I really want to know.

What facts or data proven that so called premature use of synthetic oil can affect and damage engine? ::)
I can use 0w20 synthetic or semi synthetic oil for 1000Km or 5000Km service if I rich enough. As most of us know that synthetic can last for 10,000km and more expensive, therefore general usage would recommend to use mineral oil as the usage is only 1000km and subsequent 4000km, if using synthetic oil will be a waste.
Do you know performance car come with synthetic oil from factory? So do you now know the reasons?

That's exactly what the Tan Chong Advisor told me so you may wish to question his capability and knowledge if this statement is wrong.

My SA didn't say anything about it... But I guess their concern is whether you would remember to bring the car back for servicing at 5k and 10k when you use synthetic oil from the start... The SA and the counter-staff kept emphasising that I needed to return at 5K servicing even with synthetic oil (as if I didn't know :devil2: )
-
Dun waste money lah, just use the mineral oil until 10k loh - after that then change..
i do agree synthetic oil makes the engine smoother but since its only 5k, no point spending the money.

hmmm.. after searching >> my conclusion is thatthe forum Condemned Fastflo and shogun loh haha
The recommended ones are Armsoil and currently the new Hicom EO... For those who have used these>>>Any difference between this 2???
for armsoil>> i can get from Mxtrading/My Car Forum.
Hicom>> must go Bilancia @ toh guan to buy??? SUPer far from my hse (aljunied) haha.. Any other place??

both oil must change at 5k interval?

whats ur fc now?
now abt 11+ to 12 + km/l.

actually the SA told me 40 series oil more suitable for 1600cc and above. for our ride. 30 series is more than enuf. my next service, i will try the 30 series. mayb will help improve my fc.
-
anyone heard of the royal purple EO? is it good to use 5W20?

Then your ears must be very light or you are not knowleagable enough to question him back instead of conveying wrong message and mis-leading here.

Engine oil grading depends on a series of factors: the most commonly quoted one is the SAE viscosity rates, i.e. 5W40 etc. This basically means that this is a multigrade oil with viscosity similar to that of a single grade oil of SAE 5 at low temperatures. The temperatures tested for low temp depends on the grade of oil, i.e. 0W oil is tested at -35

I'm sorry about it.
I acknowledge that I am not knowledgable and it is my mistake to provide misleading information, unintentionally.
Let's take this as a learning lesson for all, that information provided by Tan Chong's Service Advisors may not be true and accurate and that it may be advisable to get a 2nd opinion at times.
