Title: Altenator Issues
Post by: robtan99 on September 28, 2008, 07:52:03 PM
Hi

Anyone can confirm is this an issue or due to normal wear and tear.

For the past 2 years, my altenator had been consistenly charging at 14V due to Voltage meter display.  Only the recent week,
every car startup will show at 14V and then subsequent driving will slowly drop to 13V and stay there.  Can never rise back to 14V again.

Any impact to the car if the altenator is always at 12.9 - 13.1 V when driving?

Mine before cranking around >12v, after cranked is >14v. Previously around 14.8v, recently dropped to 14.2v on the run.

Those after market meters are nice to look at with its bright and colourful lights but be wary that most do not serrve their primary purpose.

My friend installed an after market meter to monitor his battery condition. It indicated normal voltage when he parked his car, but when he returned an hour later to start it, the battery was flat.

So this alternator issues is abt checking battery condition?

sent to TCM for checking.  Highlighted to them a few problems inicluding this.

As expected, they say nothing wrong with alternator coz it is not easily spoilt.  As long as the battery light is not out, the alternator is charging.

Complained about air con not cold, they reset air con (dunno wat they reset).  But result is good as now fan 1 @ 26 also damn cold.

Now i had to drive with alternator showing 12.9 to 13.2.  But discovered one weird scenario last night. As it is drizzling,
i on the wiper once, suddenly the voltmeter shows alternator charging move from 13 to 14.  It was at 14 for a few minutes then come down to 13.  I try wiper again and it went up again.  Dunno how to explain this but guess had to live with it.

hmm, sounds interesing. I might do this at my 10k servicing...  i always turn on to 21 in the day, fan speed 2.  Then just nice for me...
