Title: Where to buy Amsoil EO?
Post by: benjamin00000 on October 06, 2008, 09:53:01 PM
Hi all,

Can anyone tell me where to get Amsoil EO? My car is going for 50K servicing next week and the person who previously sold the the EO to me is not contactable, so I really need help here. Or, can anyone recommend me any other brand of EO?

and can anyone recommend which grade of EO should I use? I'm mostly drive on NSHW and driving around 160km/h? Should I use the thicker one?

Thanks in advance.

I just bought from one of the bro here 7 bottles of 5w30 last week, however, yesterday I toke up the TC NPMP package costing $1091 and it included fastflo synthtic oil, so I don't mind selling to you at the same price I got, $15 per quartz if you need it urgently, or maybe you just wait and see if the bro I bought from pm you first.

you must check whether autosavers carry amsoil, if they don't, you have to bring in yourself.

i think amsoil 0w30 or 5w30 also can use for your car, i used 5w30 for my 10k, 20k & 30k servicing, and happy with it.

1quart = 1 litres rite??

our latio sedan need 3.6 litres rite??

1 quart is < 1 litre, should be around 0.96 litre IIRC.

kaoz... depend on the mechanics' skill of pouring EO into our car???

so if for my 1st 10K, do i buy 3 or 4 bottle of w30?? i dont want to keep the left over leh haha (if use 3 bottles can??)
Title: Re: Where to buy Amsoil EO?

for my case,

10k servicing, I gave TC 4 bottles, they gave me back half bottle.
20k servicing, I gave TC 3.5 bottles, they still return me half bottle.
30k servicing, I gave TC 3 bottles, the SA tell me next time must bring 3.5 bottles.

so I guess you better bring 4 bottles, or get half from any bros here. I gave away my half bottle from my 20k servicing to my friend.

I always bring to TCM with 4 bottles and usually they used up 3 bottles and less than half on 4th bottle. I mixed 5w30 with 0w20 as the guy from mxtrading said it's ok. Till now Im still had my 0w20 left which i will use for the next servicing. Since there's a need for next servicing, I will not give away unless a change of EO preferences.

Can my EO last for 10k or shld I change every 5k?

If want to change engine every 5,000km, then it is better to use mineral oil.

If use synthetic oil, then change every 10,000km is enough.

Some continental cars change engine oil only every 15,000km.

Even oil change intervals for Daihatsu cars (Terios, Sirion, Materia) is 15,000km.

bro, you think kopi O Kau thicker better ah :bleh:

Kopitiam EO talk: http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm
Starbuck EO read: http://www.carbibles.com/viscosity.html (iagree, dont copy 100% and change to 15W50 hor)
                          http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html

as any other reading, you cant just read article by manufacturer or research paper sponsor by them 100% as you "only hear the good stuff"

5W30 versus 10W30
Virtually all new passenger vehicles sold in the U.S. use either 5W30 or 10W30 oil. The difference between the two is that the 5W30 flows better when cold, so if you live in a cold climate or operate your vehicle in a cold climate during the winter months, you should use 5W30 if it is the preferred oil for your vehicle. If you live in a sub-tropical climate and don't operate your vehicle in cold climates, then 10W30 is acceptable as long as the manufacturer specifies that it is permissible to use it.

Amsoil
Amsoil actually makes some very good products. The negative image of Amsoil is due to their distribution method (MLM) and their marketing approach. If Amsoil products were competitively priced with Mobil 1 and other synthetics, and if I could buy them in a store, I would not hesitate to use their XL-7500 synthetic as opposed to Mobil 1. What upsets me about Amsoil is that they didn't disclose until recently (and then it was by accident) the real reason that their oils (except for XL-7500) are not API certified. In the past they came up with all sorts of bizarre excuses about the reason for their lack of API certification and this greatly contributed to the distrust that people have of the company.

Oil type     Typically used in....
5W-30   Cooler climates, like Sweden or Canada
10W-40   Temperate climates, like England
15W-50   Hot climates, like Italy, Spain, Egypt

So, the REV1's 5W40 is for cooler climates also?
40 is abt 30+

Amsoil is not API certified?  :crying:

Is it safe to use?

Will Tan Chong say that we used non API certified oil and void our warranty?  :confused1:

i think everyone need to look beyond how "thick" or "thin" an engine oil is...there are many more factors which are just as, if not more important in deciding the performance/quality of an engine oil...

i also bought from MX trading. They have a website too, mxtrading.com

I just did my 20k service and switched to amsoil 5w30. so far, i'm liking what i see for my fuel consumption :)

our engine can take 3 quarts. shouldn't be a need for 4 bottles to be opened. FYI please.

what bro itchy say is true, tcm sometimes use only 3 bottles of amsoil for my servicing, however, sometimes they do use 3.5 bottles  :out:, so i reackon 3 bottles also enough as when they use 3 bottles, i did check the engine oil level dipstick, also near max level.
